DISPLAY-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Pacman June 5, 1917.
application mea May 25, 191e. seriai Na.' 99,870.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JAMES M. WRIGHT, a citizen of the' United States, residing at Tama, in the county of Tama and State of iowa, have invented' certain'new and useful Improvements in Display-Cases, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to improvements 1n show cases, more particularly `to the class of show cases in which a'plilifajlity of drawerlike receptacles are emplyed and adapted to be independently inserte@ into and 'removed from the shovL case and provided with perforated or reticulated bottoms providing communicationbetween the body of the casing and the interior of the receptacles A or drawers.
With these and invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically `pointed out in the claim; and in the drawings illustrative of the preferredv embodiment of the invention- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation; l
Fig. 2 is a transverse section; Fig. 3 is a plan View in section on the line 3-3 of Fig.2;
Fig. 4 is a detached perspective view from beneath of one of the drawer-like receptacles;
Fig. 5 1s a sectional detail illustrating a modification in the construction.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated 'in allfthe views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The improved device comprises a casing or shell including wertical corner members 10, an upper frame formed of inc'losing members 11,' a base "represented as a whole at 12, and any intermediate frame formed of horizontallmembers 1,3 connected to the ver- -tical corner members 10. The space between the upper frame 11, the corner members 10, and the intermediate `frame members 13 is occupied by panels lfffof glass or the like, while the space between the base 12, the corner members 10, and the intermediate frame members 13, is occupied by panel members 15 also preferably of glass. The base 12 supports a bottom member 16, as shown. The
intermediate frame members 13 are con-y nected at suitable intervals by transverse supports 17. The end portions of the interother objects in view, the.
mediate members 13 are provided respectively with inwardly directed supporting ribs 18 while the transverse members 17 are provided with similar supportingribs 19.
The drawer-like .receptacles are each constructed with sides 20, forward'en'ds 21 and rear ends 22, the sides l20 having guide chan- I nels toengage the ribs 18-19, as shown in Fig; 1. The rear end 22 of each receptacle fits between the rear portion of the upper `frame 11 and the rear portion of the intermediate frame .13 and is preferably provided with a lip-like projection 24 to engage over the rear faces of the frame members, whilefthe forward end 21 of each receptacle is of less height than the rear end 22, while the upper edges'of the sides 20 are curved upwardly and rearwardly, as shown in Fig. 2. The bottom 25 of each of the receptacles is preferably formed of sheet metal and provided with a plurality of openings 26, the openings providing communication between the interiors of the receptacles and the interior of the casing below the receptacles so that the atmosphere freely cir-` culates throughout the entire interior of the show case, or both above and below the receptacles and likewise throughout the interior of the receptacles.
The improved device is designed more particularly for holding cigars and similar articles in convenient position for access by the purchaser or the salesman and likewise displayed constantlyv under glass and thereby protected from deterioration'. When employed for displaying cigars and like commodities which are required ,to be maintained in moistenedtor humid condition the openings 26V Will-be found of great advantage, as they permit` the moist air. from the humidors, when employed, to freely circulate throughout the entire interior of the show case includingl the interiors of the receptacles. The improved device may be of any requiredsize, orof any suitable material, and any required number of the receptacle's may be employed and of any required size or form. f
The improved device may likewise be employed for holding and displaying oods other than cigars, such as candy an the like, and the walls of the receptacles may be varied in height to adaptthe device to the form or condition of the goods to be displayed. l
The openings 26 may be erfany size or form and may be arranged in parallel relation longitudinally or the drawers as sliding closures represented conxentionally y at 27. v
Having thus described the-invention, what is claimed as new is: i.
A display case including a cabinet having;v
inclosing walls andy provided with intermediate end iframe members and an intermediate side frame member arranged in a hori- Zontal plane, saidl intermediate end frame members and side :frame member being pro vided with enlarged heads directed inwardly i of the waiis or the cabinet., the inner face of the bead portion of the side irame mem- @essere ber being unobstructed and the inner faces of the end frame members being provided with inwardly extending guide ribs, a plurality of intermediate horizontal supports arranged within the cabinet between the end frame members and engaging the side frame member at one end, each end frame member and each inteririediate support being provided with oppositely disposed 4guiding ribs, a plurality of drawers slidably mounted within the casing and provided with uidu ing channels adapt-ed to receive `the ,guiding ribs, the sides of the drawers adapted to slidably engage the'body portions of the end frame members and the intermediate frame members and to bear at one eud against the inner face of the side fromemember, whereby the drawers are maintained in spaced relation to the walis of the cabinet to permit the circulation of air around the drawer.,
in testimony whereof affix my signature. JAMES M. Y/VRGHT. (11.5.1
