vice of'this character which is simple, em-
cient and economical in construction, vand which may be conveniently worn or carried about the person of the user, so as to be ready at hand when needed.
Another object of the invention is to provide Vsuch a device which permits the punching of a ticket at any desired point and wherein means are provided for the retention of the clippings removed by the cutting action of the punch. OtherI andfurther objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof ldened by the appended claims.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is aside view of the invention showing a pad of tickets held thereby;
Fig. 2 is a plan of the invention;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line X-X of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 indicates one form of ticket which may be conveniently carried by the device and which is represented as having been punched along its margin.
Like numerals of reference refer to like aparts in the several figures ofthe drawing,
'Ihe illustrated embodiment of this invention comprises a base plate A of any suitable material and configuration, though here shown as being rectangular in shape, the longitudinal side edges of which are bent to form upstanding flanges 2 cut away as at 3 for the greater part of their lengthA to facilitate the easy removalv of tickets from a pad thereof, such as B, held upon the base in a manner to be later explained.
In order to permit the proper positioning of the pad upon the base, the latter is provided with an upturned ear l adjacent to one of its ends; while soldered or otherwise secured upon the outer. face of one of the fianges 2 is a-n enlarged pocket 5 having an open upper end.
' thereby.
The numeral 6 represents a substantially T-shape plate having adjacent to the end of its stem portion a pair' of spaced a,downwardly projecting ears 7 journaled or piv- `oted on 'a rod 8 extending transversely between the `flanges 2and spaced above the base, the plate b'eing of such width as to span the distance between and rest upon the upper edges of theflanges as shown, and one portion of the head ofthe T completely covi ering the open upper end of the pocket. A tension spring 9 is positioned about the rod between the ears 7 and is designed to normally maintain the plate in pocket-closing positionv as shown. At its head edge, the plate is provided with a plurality of spaced pointed teeth 10 which engage the upper surface of the pad of tickets B so as to prevent displacement or loss of the same.
Upon the Aupper surface of the plate is ar- .rangeda' spring member which, as shown,
includes two arms 11 and 12 extending at right angles to oneanother and secured at their free ends to the plate; while at the angle portion, the member is provided with an inclined cutti-ng edge or punch 13 of any desired shape which cooperates with the' `cutting.' edges of a suitable aperture 14 formedk in that portion of the head of the plate 6,- whichfoverlies the open end of the pocket 5 so that the clippings removed from a ticket inserted between the punch and the face of theplate are caught and retained Extending longitudinally of the arm 11 is an elongated slot 15 within which is slidably disposed an abutment or shoulder 16 which may be adjusted therealong and thus properly position the inserted ticket so that it may be punched at the desired point, it being ,understood that the shoulder limits the inward movement of such ticket -as may be desired.
A portion .of the base may be stamped therefrom and bent outwardly to form a ange 17 having `an aperture 18 by means of which it may be conveniently attached about the person of the'user so as to be ready at hand when needed.
At its end remote from the ear L1, the base is provided with stop members in the form of short flanges 19, so that the movement of a pad or pads of tickets such as B is limited in all directions and the ends and edges thereof protected. These limiting means, together with the sidev'langes and toothed portion of the plate positively position the 'tickets upon the base and prevent loss or injury thereto.
ln accordance with the patent statutes, l have described the principles of operation of my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but l desire Ato have it understood that the construction shown is only illustrative, and that the invention can be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set forth within the scope of the following claims.
Having described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is l.
