Description
EDWARD E. BREWSTER.
l mprovement in Mop Wringers.
'Patented-Jan-,16,1872.'
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD E. BREWSTER, OF HOLLY, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOP-WRINGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,804, dated January 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD E. BREWSTER, of Holly, in the county of Oakland and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in' Mop-Wringers; and I do declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters thereon making part of this specification, in which my device is shown in perspective.
The object of this invention is to provide a cheap and effective device to be attached to a wooden pail, with which a mop-cloth may be wrung with ease and dispatch; and it consists in the arrangement of the spiral wringer-segments with barbs or studs to hold the mopcloth while being twisted to expel the water, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents a curved bracket, the outer extremity of which is forked, and the extremities of the forks turned downward to form a clamp or clip, I), by which it may be attached. firmly to the top of a common waterpail. From the other end of the bracket two or more spiral segments, B, rise in the form of an inverted cone and terminate in a circular rim, 0. The lower portions of the segments B have formed on their inn er faces inward projecting barbs or studs a, so arranged that when the mop-cloth is inserted in the wringer and rotated to the right the cloth will catch on these studs, and the further torsion of the cloth, through the handle in the hands of the operator, insures a speedy expulsion of the water from the cloth.
The whole device may be in one piece, and preferably of malleable iron; but, if desired, other metals may be used, and the wringer and bracket be made in separate pieces and riveted together. I
I am well aware that, with exception of the studs a, no part of this wringer is new; and, further, that without these studs the device was practically inoperative by reason of the mop-cloth moving therein as fast as twisted, unless the operator took pains to draw the ends of the mop-cloth down between the lower ends of the wringer-segments before twisting it.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The wringer-segments B, when provided with the studs a, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the barbed spiral segments B with the rim 0 and bracket A, as described and shown.
EDWARD E. BREWSTER.
