COLUMN FORM CLAMP.
APPLICATION man JUNE 26. 1916.

WITNESSES. xigww 1" HENRY I. J UNGCLAUS, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
COLUMN-FORM CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 29, 191?.
Application filed June 26, 1916. Serial No. 105,783.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY P. J UNGGLAUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Column-Form Clamp, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a form clamp designed to facilitate the accurate production of column forms for the reception of fresh concrete in the construction of concrete buildings, the device being of such character that the column forms may be produced with accuracy by comparatively unskilled labor.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention. Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the manner of use of my improved clamps in assembling the material for a column form; Fig. 2 a perspective view of the completed form erected and with one of the clamps removed; Fig. 3 a transverse section through a partially erected column form, the section being in the medial plane of a pair of clamps; Fig. 1 a section on line 4-4 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 a section on line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
My improved clamp consists of two identical mating members, each of which is L- shaped, the divergent arms 10, 10, being rigidly connected, preferably being formed integral with each other, and accurately placed at right angles to each other. It will, of course, be understood that if a column form other than the quadrilateral is desired, the clamps will be correspondingly formed to the proper angle and varied in number.
Each arm 10 is provided in its inner surface with a longitudinal groove 11, the bottom of which is removed for a considerable distance at the outer end of each arm, as indicated at 12, so as to form a pair of parallel fingers 10, 10, said fingers being provided with suitable bolt-receiving perforations 13. The fingers 12 are of such thickness, as compared with the groove 11, that the fingers of one member 10-10, may be interdigitated with the fingers of a mating member 10-10, and the two members secured together by bolts 14. so as to form any desired rectangular space corresponding to the external dimensions of the desired column form.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the When several clamps have been associated in the manner shown in Fig. 1, they are arranged upon a suitable work table 15 at desired distances apart, and wooden strips 16 are laid in the grooves 11 of the lowermost horizontal arm 10. The strip material 17 for one side of the column forms is then threaded through the several clamps and secured together by nails 18 driven through the strips 17 into the cross strips 16. When the material for one side of the form has been thus placed, the clamps are turned through an angle of 90, strips 16 laid in the then lowermost arm 10, and the operation repeated.
The arms 10, 10, being rigidly associated with each other at an accurate angle, and the cross strips 16 being accurately held therein, it is apparent that the completed form will be accurately square in cross section and the parts will be firmly held. Leakage at the edges of the form may be prevented in the usual manner by tacking in a fillet strip.
After the form has been completed, it may be erected in place, and, after the concrete has hardened, the clamps may be removed and the sections of the form taken down. If the same sized column is to be made at another point, the four sections of the form may be reassembled by clamping the clamps around the sections, said clamps fitting over the cross strips 16.
I claim as my invention:
1. A form clamp comprising a pair of divergent arms each formed upon its inner face to receive and retain a nailing strip of wood and each formed at its end to be detachably connected to the end of a similar arm.
2. A form clamp comprising a pair of divergent arms each bifurcated at its end for interdigitation with a similar arm and each formed upon its inner face to receive and retain wooden nailing strips.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 23rd day of June, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and sixteen.
HENRY P. JUNGCLAUS.
