State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plural Lamp- Sockets; and I do hereby declare the following, when takenin connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters v0 of reference marked thereon, to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part'of this application, and represent, in
Figure 1 a view in side elevation of a L5 plural lamp-socket constructed in accordance with my invention.

My invention relates to an improved plural or twin lamp-socket, the object being to produce a simple, compact, convenient and serviceable lamp-socket of the character I described, constructed with particular reference to reducing the number of parts to the minimum, to avoiding the use of assembling screws and to the production of a substantial socket not readily taken apart.

In carrying out my "invention as herein shown, I employ an axially divided twopart socket-body comprising two complementary or half parts preferably, though not necessarily, made of insulating material such as porcelain, fiber, etc., the said parts dividing the body flatwise, as it were,. or in its axial plane. -One of the said parts comprises a semicircular stem 5 merging" at its lower end into the center of a body 6 formed with two semicircular chambers 7 a and 8 standing, as shown, substantially at a right angle to each other. The complementary part comprises a semicircular stem 9 merging at its lower end into a body 10 having two semicircular chambers 11 and 12 come sponding. in size and relation to each other to the chambers 7 and 8 aforesaid, and combining therewith to form two circular chambers located within the complete two-part body and standing at an angle to each other. The said stem 9 is formed at its upper end with an integral beveled, circular crown 13 the overhanging half 14 of which fits over the upper end of the stem 5 which is made correspondingly short, as clearly shown in Fig. 4. The said crown 13 is formed with a central screw-hole 15 the upper end of which is countersunk as at 16 for the reception of the head 17 of a contact-screw 18 which extends downward through grooves 19 and 20 in the inner faces of the complementary body- parts 5 and 9. The lower end of the said screw is threaded for being screwed into the drifted and threaded central portion of a sheet-metal terminal-piece 21 having yielding contact-fingers 22 and 23, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
Within the respective circular chambers produced, as described, within the two-part body, I locate integral lamp-receptacle screw- shells 24 and 25 united by a web 26 extending between their outer edges and formed upon their upper edges with corresponding arms 27 and 28 produced by centrally dividing a web 29 corresponding to the web 26 and produced in the formation of the part as shown in Fig. 7, which illustrates the mode adopted for the formation in one piece of the lamp- receptacle screwshells 24 and 25, the same constituting one of the novel features of my improved device. The said arms 27 and 28 are soldered to corresponding arms 30 and 31 formed at opposite points upon the lower edge of a plug-screw shell 32 which is fitted over the stems 5 and 9 of the complementary halves of the two-part body. The said arms 30 and 31 are initially formed as shown by full lines in Fig. 6, and spread apart as shownby broken lines in the said figure, by being forced into inclined slots 33 formed partly in each of the complementary body-parts where the stems 5 and 9 thereof merge mto the body- portions 6 and 10 thereof as shown in Fig. 5. The said arms 30 and 31 are thus brought into position to be soldered as at 34: to the arms'27 and 28 of the lamp receptacle screw-shells 24: and 25. The pro ectmg outer ends of the said shells 241 and 25 receive internally threaded binding collars 35 and 36 the inner edges of which are beveled as at 37 to overlap corresponding bevels 38 formed upon the lower portions of the complementary body-parts. It 'Wlll thus be seen that the complementary body-parts are bound together by means of the plug-screw shell 32 on the one hand, and by the blnding- collars 35 and 36 on the other hand, the use of assembling screws being thus dispensed with.
In assembling my improved plural lampsocket, the screw 18 carrying the terminalpiece 21, together with the integral lampreceptacle screw-shells 24: and 25, are placed in position in one of the body-parts after which the other body-part is capped over them, as it were, and the whole structure bound together by the application of the screw-shell 32 and the collars 35 and 36. When the parts are thus assembled, the arms 30 and 31 of the shell 32 are soldered as at 34. to the arms 27 and 28 of the lamp-receptacle screw- shells 24 and 25. The device as thus made, is simple, compact, and durable, and dispenses with the use of assembling screws as above stated.
Fig. 11 shows a modified form of the twopart body. In this construction, the bodyparts 39 are counterparts of each, their stems 40 being alike instead of making one shorter than the other and providing the other with an overhanging ledge as shown in Fig. 4, which is at the present time my preferred construction, inasmuch as it avoids the spreading of the body-parts by the beveled head 17 of the screw 18, should tension be placed thereon, whereas in the modified form shown by Fig. 11, if tension is placed upon the screw, the tendency would be to spread the body-parts 39-39 against the shell 32.
I claim 1. A plural lamp-socket having an axially divided body made in two half-parts each having a stem and two corresponding chambers, and means for securing the said parts together.
2. In a plural lamp-socket, the combination with an axially divided two-part body mamas each of the complementaryparts of which is formed with a semicircular stem and has two semicircular chambers, of a screw-plug shell encircling the said stems, two lampreceptacle screw-shells respectively located within the circular chambers formed by the said semicircular chambers, and collars applied to the projecting ends of the screwshells and engaging with the body-parts tor holding the same together.
3. In a plural lamp-socket, the combination with an axially divided two-part body each of the complementary parts of which is formed with a semicircular stem, and has two semicircular chambers inclined with respect to each other, of a screw-plug shell inclosing the said stems, two lamp-receptacle screw-shells inclined with respect to each other and located within the circular chambers formed by the union of the said semicircular chambers and connected to. the said screw-plug shell, and a screw centrally interposed between the said body-parts and at its inner end carrying yielding contacts positioned for engagement by lamps entered into the respective screw-shells.
4. In a plural lamp-socket, the combina tion with an axially divided two-part body each of the complementary parts of which is formed with a semicircular stem and has two semicircular chambers standing at an angle with respect to each other, the stem of one of the said parts being longer than the stem of the other part and shaped to overhang the same, lamp-receptacle screw-shells located within the chambered body, and means for securing the said body-parts together.
5. In a plural lamp-socket, the combination with a chambered body therefor, of a screw-plug shell, and two lamp-receptacle screw-shells standing at an angle with respect to each other, and adapted to be located within the said chambered body and made integral with each other and each furnished at a point opposite their integral connection with integral arms for their connection with the said screw-plug shell.
6. In a plural lamp-socket, the combination with an axially divided two-part body each of the complementary parts of which is formed with a stem and chambered, integral lamp-receptacle shells located within the said two-part body and each formed with an arm, and a screw-plug shell adapted to encircle the stems of'the said parts and formed at its lower end with oppositely located fingers positioned to be connected with the respective arms of the lamp-receptacle screw-shells.
7. In a plural lamp-socket, the combination with an axially divided two-part body each of the complementary parts of which is formed with a stem and two semicircular chambers, and each part being formed at the spective arms of the said lamp-receptacle M11 screw-shells.
