Be it known that I, BERNARD BADANIGS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receiver-Supports for Telephones, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in receiver supportsfor telephones.
The present invention designs the provision of a support carried by the usual telephone adapted for the ready reception of the receiver for positioning the same convenient for the ear of the operator when using the telephone, the device being so formed as to be extremely cheap and easy to manufacture.
\Vhile it is known that telephone receiver supporting attachments have been heretofore devised, none of the same are formed of two metallic bands or strips of substantially equal length adjustably secured together at their overlapped ends, one of the bands being bent for encircling the attachment to the telephone and the other bent upon itself forming a receiving socket having loops at the entrance thereof.
Another object of the device therefore, is the provision of a receiver supporting attachment formed of two bands in bent arrangement adapted for attachment to a telephone for the ready reception of the transmitter during the operative use thereof.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.
In the drawing forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a front elevation of a telephone provided with the present device, the elements being shown in their normal rest positions.

It is to be understood that the present de vice is designed for employment with a telephone of the type best known as a desk set comprising a base 10 forpositioning upon a desk or other support 11 with an upright shaft 12 carrying the hook 18 for the receiver 14c;
The present device isformed of two sub stantially equal length bands or strips 15 and Y16 preferably formed of malleable metal which is easily bent into the desired forms during the manufacture of the device, being of sufficient strength to retain its bent formation and for accomplishing the objects desired.
The strip 16 at one end thereof is bent in the form of an encircling clamp 17 adapted to spring around the shaft 12 of the telephone and retained rigidly upon such shaft by means'of a locking bolt 18.
The said strip 16 is-given a half twist as at 19 intermediate its length thereby making the planes of its. opposite end portions positioned perpendicularly to each other.
The outer end portion of the strip 16 is pro vided with a right-angular bend, the material then being bent back upon itself forming a foot 20 of double thickness and adapted to rest upon the deskll adjacent the telephone base 10, with the main or connecting portion of the strip 16 substantially horizontal.
The turned back portion of the foot 20 is extended upwardly substantially parallel with the telephone shaft 12 when in position at a point above the main portion of the strip 16 and is provided with a longitudinal slot 21 adjacent its free end. The other strip 15 is adapted to overlap the slotted end of the strip 16 for upright positioning and is provided with a plurality of adjusting screws 22 slidably arranged through the slot 21 for tightening when the strips 15 and 16 are at the desired adjustment, a desirable number of threaded perforations 23 being arranged through the lower end of the strip 15 for receiving such screws.
The opposite end of the strip 15 is bent laterally as at 24 substantially mid-way of its length and has its outer free end bent upon itself forming a receiving socket 25 of U-shaped form with loops 26 and 27 oppositely arranged at the entrance of the said socket forming rounded guide members as well as retaining means for slightly grasping a telephone receiver such as 27 when seated within the socket, the material of which the strip 15 is formed being slightly resilient.
The loop 26 is formed at the bending of the strip 2a upon itself in constructing the socket 25 while the loop 27 is formed by outwardly turning or beading the free end of the strip, it being noted that substantially one-half of the socket 25, as at the side 28 thereof, is thus formed of double thickness while the upright portion of the strip 15 eX- tends from substantially the central lower side of the socket 25 at anangular sidewise bend 29 in the strip at a point spaced from the aforementioned edgewise bend 24: thereof.
The complete operation of the device will be at once apparent from this description thereof, it being seen that when the same is secured to the telephone shaft 12 by means of the clamp 17, the foot 20 rests upon the disk 11 as before noted, while the receiver 1 f may be removed from the hook 13 and placed in a resting position within the socket 25 when the operator desires to use the telephone. The enlarged cap 30 of the receiver rests against the forward edge of the socket 25 while the loops 26 and 27 slightly resilient engage the adjacent flaring portion of the receiver, it being noted that the main portion of the receiver 14: is of sufficiently small diameter to allow its ready insertion between the loops 26 and 27 for resting within the socket. It will be understood that with the receiver 27 arranged as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the hands of the operator are left free for use such as for writing purposes or while talking over the telephone.

What I claim as new is A receiver supporting attachment for telephones comprising two substantially equal length slightly resilient metallic strips, one of the same being adapted for horizontal positioning while in use having a half turn with one end portion bent in the form of a substantially circular clamp, a retaining bolt for the said clamp, the opposite end portion of the said strip having a right-angular bend therein, the strip being bent upon itself forming a foot of double thickness of the material, the adjacent free end of the horizontal strip having a longitudinal slot, the other of said strips being adapted for vertical arrangement having one end slidably overlapping the said slot, retaining screws positioned through the said slot in engagement with the said vertical strip, the said vertical strip having its free end por tion bent in the form of a U-shaped socket centrally projecting from the adjacent portion of the strip, the material of the strip being bent back upon itself forming a loop at said bending point arranged at one side of the socket, the free end of the vertical strip being of looped formation at the opposite side of the said socket, the said vertical strip having a sidewise bend substantially centrally at the bottom of said socket and an edge-wise bend at a point slightly spaced therefrom.
