EDWIN A. OLLEY, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO CROUSE-HINDS COMPANY,
OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
PANEL-BOARD AND LIN IN G-STRIP SUPPORTING MEANS.
Application filed June 14, 1913.
1 b all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWIN A. OLLEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Panel-Board and Lining- Strip Supporting'Means, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to panel board cabinets and particularly to means for supporting the panel board and the lining strips in the cabinet, and the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a plan View of this means for supporting the panel board and lining strips, contiguous portions of the lining strips be ing shown.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View on line AA Fig. 1, the lining strips being omitted.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line BB Fig. 2, parts being removed and the lining strips being shown.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional View on line CC Fig. 2, the panel board and one of the lining strips being shown.
The means for supporting the panel board and the lining strips is usually arranged at a corner of the panel board and is known commercially as a corner iron, and for convenience, will be referred to throughout the specification as a corner iron.
This corner iron comprises a supporting bracket designed to be secured to the wall or to the bottom of the panel board cabinet, and means detachably carried by the standard for holding the panel board, as clamping means including members having upper and lower jaws for engaging the opposite faces of the panel board, the corner iron also including means for gripping the lining strips, and parts being preferably so formed that they can be struck up out of sheet metal.
The bracket includes a base flange 1 and a standard 2 projecting from the base flange, the base flange being formed with comparatively large openings 3 through which fastening members as screws 4 are passed into the wall or bottom of the cabinet A, the
heads of the screws 4 bearing against wash:

ers 5 large enough to cover the holes in any position the screws may occupy relatively to the side walls of the holes 3. The base flange 1 is elongated and from one of the long sides thereof the standard 2 rises in a direction at a right angle to the flange l,the major part of the standard 2 being flat and the side margins 6 thereof being bent into an angular position relatively to the major part of the standard into position to engage the outer sides of the lining strips 7 which usually extend in planes at a right angle to each other.
The standard 2 is also formed with a cen trally located slot 8 near the base flange 1 for receiving the corner of the panel board 9, Fig. 4. 10 and 11 are the clamping members having jaws 12 and 13 for engaging respectively the lower and upper faces of the panel board 9, the members 10 and 11 being formed of sheet metal and the member 10 having its body portion extended upwardly between the body of the member 11 and the standard 2 and being adjustable vertically in a guide way formed in the standard 2. The body of the member 10 is formed with an opening 14 alined with the slot 8. The guide way is preferably formed by inwardly bent lugs 15 struck from the body portion of the standard 2 on opposite sides of the median line thereof, these lugs being bent to extend in a direction parallel to the marginal flanges 6 of the standard into positions to engage the end edges of the strips 7 The member 10 is formed with its body portion substantially flat and with its side margins 16 bent into angular relation to its intermediate. portion to conform the guide way and to engage the inner faces of the ears l5. Said margins 16 engage the side edges of the panel board. The edges of the strips 7. The member 10 is formed with a rearwardly extending threaded stud 17 extending through a central longitudinal slot 18 in the major part of the standard 2 and a wing nut 19 turns on the stud 17 against the rear faces of the standard 2 to hold the jaw member 10 at any elevation.
The member 11 is formed of sheet metal and is arranged to extend in a straight line across the corner portion of the panel board 9 with its lower edge or jaw 13 opposed to the jaw 12 of the member 10; and the side tical plane,
edges 20 out the member 11 are arranged in a position opposed to the marginal flanges G of the standard 2 to cooperate with said marginal flanges to grip the lining strips 7. 'lheintermediate part of the member i1 is spaced apart from the lining strips, Fig. 2 5. The upper end of the member 11 is provided with a rearwardly turned flange 21 which "forms a cover for the space between the members 10 and 11 and also a stop limiting the downwl rd movement of the member 11. The member 11 is secured in position relatively to the standard 2 and member 10 by clamping ileans consisting of a stud or screw extending through alined slots 18 and 23 in the standard and in the body or the clamping member it), and a wing nut 24 turning on the 2:2.
In operation there is a corner iron at each corner of the panel board and each bracket is adjustable into position owing to the enlarged holes 5, and the members l0, 11 are adjusted vertically to various hei hts to support the panel board with its face in. a verthe corners of "the panel board extending through the slots 8 and of the standard 2 and member 10. The lining strips are then placed in position and the clamping member 11 clamped in position I i an bent with its jaw 13 engaging the upper edge oi? the panel board.
