LEWIS B. GRIFFIN, oF cANDoR, vNEW YORK.
FLAME-REGULATOR FOR INCUBATORS.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented May S, 1917.
Application led June 28, 1916. Serial No. 106,430.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, LEWIS B. GRIFFIN, a
citizen of the United States, residing atregulating the height of the flame by the thermostat used with such incubators, but the regulation is accomplished through the admission to the body of the incubator of greater or .less amount of the heating medium whether the samel be air or hot water.
The principal object .of the present invention is to providevan improved and simple attachment which' can be applied to practically all types of incubators, and which, when so applied, will regulate the height of the flame at the same time that the thermostat operates to regulate the dampers or valves.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a device of this description which may be applied to an incubator lamp without the necessity of using a special burner or fitting for such lamp.
With the above and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter apparent the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of arts hereinafter fully described, illustrated 1n the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed.
In the `accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and
Figure 1 is a side-elevation of an incubator showing the attachment applied thereto, a portion of the lamp chimney being broken away in order to better disclose the device;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail section through the lamp showing the device in position;
Fig. 3 is a section kon the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a section on Fig. 2.
In the present embodiment of the invention herein illustrated there'has been disclosed an incubator 10 of any preferred type and this incubator is provided with a thermostat which it is not deemed necessary to show since the same forms no particular part of the invention. This thermostat controls a damper lever 11 which is located above the top of the incubator 10 and projects over the top of a lamp stand 12 whereon is located a lamp 13 provided with the usual fitting indicated in general at 14. This fitting includes a wick collar 15 and a chimney seat 16. Fixed to the end of the incubator 10 is a heater cylinder 17 which has an opening in the top. The flow of heated air through this opening is usually controlled by a damper 18 carried bythe lever 11. Seated on the chimney seat 1G is a chimney 19 which communicates with the drum 17 so that the heated air land products of combustion from the lamp are conducted to the drum, being thereinafter conducted to the incubator and distributed in aconvenient manner not deemed necessary here to be shown.
The invention proper consists of a. wick collar 20 which is of such size as to be freely slidable vertically on the wick 21. This collar is of the same general form as the ordinary wick collar 15 but the lower edges thereof are flared outwardly as at 22 for the purpose of permitting the more ready insertion of the wick and movement of the collar thereon. The collar shown is of ay flattened tubular form and to the edges of this tube are connected the lower ends of a fork 23 which terminates upwardly in a rod 24 carrying at its upper end a hook 25 wherewith it engages a suitable eye 26 carried by the lever 11, said rod sliding freely through the damper 18. In this manner the collar 20 is the line 4-4 of swingingly supported from the lever 11 so 100 that it can readily adjust itself to the wick even though the latter he not positioned in accurate alinement beneath the ends of the lever. Furthermore, this swinging movement provides for an easy movement of the collar on the wick.
In operation, when the heat in the incubator becomes too great, the thermostat moves the lever in the ordinary way so as to slide through the damper 18. At the same yso regulate any inaccuracies in such adjustments.
There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for thepurpose specified.
It is obvious that many minor changes l' may be made in the `form and construction ofthe invent-ion without departingfrom the materialpinciples thereof. It is not there- `forerdesired toconfine the invention, to the lexact form herein shown and described but Gopieso'f this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
Washington, D. C."
it is wished to include all such as properly come Within the scope claimed. 4
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:-
a In combination with an incubator having a wick provided lamp and a thermostatic regulator provided with a lever having an end projecting over the lamp; a Wick collar freely slidable on the wick, and a rod attached to the lever and terminating at its lower end in a fork having its arms attached to the collar. t
In testimony whereof, I aix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
