Description

E. A. TRAYLOR.
VEHICLE BODY.
APPLICATION FILED NOV.18. 19H?- 11, ,fi 5 19% Patented May 8, 1917.

EZRA A. TRAYJLOR, OF COMMERCE, TEXAS.
VEHICLE-BQJDY.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EZRA A. TRAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Commerce, in the county of Hunt and State of Texas, have invented certain new and usefull mprovements in Vehicle-Bodies, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in vehicle bodies and it is an object of the invention to provide novel and improved means whereby the side and end panels of the body will be effectively braced in applied position.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved vehicle body whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advanta-' geous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The-novel features of.the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in top plan of a vehicle body constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view of my improved device as herein set forth, the T-bolts being shown in elevation;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary longitudinal sectional view taken through my invention asherein included, the T-bolt and eye bolt being shown in elevation; and
Fig. f is a fragmentary view partly in elevation and partly-in section illustrating a modified form of my invention.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, B denotes a vehicle body of a type generall employed in connection with buggies an which includes the side panels S and the end panels E.
Adjacent its opposite ends and at a point substantially midway its length, the body B is provided with the transverse bracing members M and as herein embodied, each of said bracing members M includes a tubular member 1 interposed between the side panels S andhaving its opposite end portions Specification of Letters Patent.

interiorly threaded, as indicated at 2, said threads being reversely. directed.
3 denotes T-bolts provided with threaded shanks 4: disposed through suitable openings in the side panels S and which are in threaded engagement with the opposite end portions of the memberl, the heads 5 of said bolts 3 overlying the outer faces of said side panels S and provided preferably adjacent their extremities with the inwardly disposed prongs 6 or the like adapted to impinge or penetrate the side panels so that the same are held against rotary movement. By having the threaded end portions of the member 1 reversely directed it will'be perceived that upon imparting axial rotation to said member 1 the heads 5 will be brought into requisite engagement with the panels S.
I have also found it of advanta e in some instances to have the heads 5 as lllustrated in Fig. 4: of such a length as to have an angular extremity 7 underlie a sill of the vehicle body B or to coact with the seat supported by the vehicle body.
Disposed through each of the end panels E are the T-bolts 8 of a structure substantially identical with that as has been set forth relative to the T-bolts 3, and the shanks 9 of said bolts 8 are in threaded engagement with a sleeve 10 which also has in threaded engagement therewith the shanks 11 of the eye bolts 12 through which the tubular members 1 of the adjacent transverse bracing members M are directed. It is also to be noted that the shanks 9 and 11 are reversely threaded so that the sleeves 10 serve in the nature of a turn buckle so that the requisite strain may be imposed upon the bolts 8 in order to effectively brace the end panels E.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a vehicle body constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in claimed.
I claim: 1. In combination with a, vehicle body 5 including side panels and end panels, transversely disposed bracing members interposed between the side panels adjacent the end panels, eye bolts engaged with the transverse bracing members and provided 0 with threaded shanks, T-bolts provided with threaded shanks disposed through the end practice, except as hereinafter panels, and sleeves with which the shanks of the eye bolts and the T-bolts are engaged.
2. In combination with a wagon ody in- 15 eluding side panels, a brace member for said side panels includin an elongated member interposed between t e panels and provided with threaded openings at its opposite ends, and T-bolts having their shanks disposed through the side panels and in threaded en- 20 gagement with the opening of the ends of the elongated member, the head of each of the bolts having an angular extremity underlying the body.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my 5 signature in the presence of two witnesses.
