COTTON-PRESS FOLLOWER-IBOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 8, 191?.
Application filed August 21, 1916. Serial No. 116,184.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HEARMAN IVUENsoH and OTTo PFEIL, citizens of the United States, residing at F redericksburg, in the county of Gillespie, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gotton-Press Follower-Boards; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cotton baling presses and has special reference to a cotton press follow board.
In the use of cotton baling presses where the cotton is covered by burlap or other like material it is found that when the follow board is operated by the press box the bagging will hang below the follow board and, in passing up anddown between the walls of the press while filling the press will catch and become dislodged from its proper position. Thus it becomes necessary after the press is full to work the bagging into position with great difliculty or, to go down to the bottom of the press and fasten the bagging after each baling operation.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a detachable follow block so arranged that it will be removably seated on the head of the press or plunger while at the same time provision will be made for receiving the sides and top of the bagging so that they will not catch on the walls of the press in the movement of the plunger.
With the above and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter apparent the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a press showing the improved follow block in position with the bagging thereon, the latter being shown in section.
Fig. 2 is an end view similar to Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view, of the follower block.
In carrying out the objects of this inven tion there is provided, in connection with the usual press indicated in general at A a plunger head B. On this plunger head is removably seated a follow board which comprises a pair of spaced supporting members 10 which rest on the plunger head and terminate at their ends in spaced relation to the ends of the head. These members 10 are also spaced from the sides of the head so that they are entirely clear at all parts from the sides and ends of said head. Extending across the members 10 are transverse members 11 which are spaced from each other and which have their ends above the side edges of the head, the outside faces of the end members being arranged above the end edges of the head. In this manner there is provided entirely around the device a baggage receiving space 12 between the regular head and the transverse members 11. There is also provided a filler plate 13 which is interposed between the supporting and transverse members and closes the central portions of the spaces between said transverse members.
There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A removable follower board for the heads of plungers of baling presses comprising the combination with a plunger head, a plurality of spaced parallel bars removably carried by the head, spaced transversely extending members secured to said spaced bars, and a plate for covering the space between the transversely extending spaced members, said plate being retained in position between the spaced members and the transversely extending members substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.

FELIX PFEIL, R. E. JORDAN.
