Description
51. HARMON WARREN Improvement in Dirt Scrapers.
Nd. 122,503 PafehtedJan .2,1872i.
Inventor Witnesses:
UNI ED STATES HARMON WARREN, OF FAIRFAX, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN DlRT-SCRAPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,503, dated January 2, 1872.
. tion.
- The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a sod and dirt scraper, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention app ertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side view, Fig.2 is a front View, and Fig. 3 a plan View of my. machine.
A A represent a series of bars, arranged horizontally and having their rear ends curved downward, forming each a hook or strong tooth, B. Instead of bending or curving the bars A A their hooks or teeth may be made separately, and bolted or riveted to the bars. The bars A A are, in front of the point where they commence to bend, rigidly attached to a beam, 0, which may be made of wood or iron. The bars may be attached to this beam in any suitable manner to keep them in their proper places. D is a thin plate of iron or other metal attached by means of staples a a in the curve to theteeth B B. This plate answers the double purpose of strengthening the teeth, and to carry the loose dirt along with the sods. E is a frontbeam, running parallel with the rear beam G, and rigidly connected with or attached to the bars A A. The beam E may be made of wood or metal, and is provided with a staple, b, and hooks d (l for attaching either one or two horses to draw the scraper over the ground.
G G are handlesfor guiding the scraper, which may be attached either to the rear beam (J or to the two outside bars A, and they are connected by a rod, I.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The scraper shown and described, when provided with the metal plate D, attached by means of the staples a a to the hooks or teeth B B, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of August, 1871.
HARMON WARREN.
