PAUL B. NEWMAN, or LA FAYETTE, INDIANA.
FILING-TABLE FOB, TUBES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 1, 1917.
Application filed September 30, 1916. Serial No. 123,076.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL B. NEWMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Fayette, in the county ofTippecanoe and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filing-Tables for Tubes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a filing table or holder for tubes, and more particularly blue print tubes, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a table having a top in which are formed a plurality of spaced circular openings for receiving blue print tubes, or analogous articles, and to provide a plurality of crossed braces positioned a predetermined distance below the table top, which braces cross in alinement with the center of the openings formed in the top, and form supports for the bottoms of the tubes, whereby blue print tubes or analogous articles may be filed or kept in a neat arrangement for ready reference.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which 2-- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the improved filing table.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the table having one of the legs broken away.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal cross through the table.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section through the table, and
Fig. 5 is a vertical section taken on the line 55 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the four corner supporting legs of the table which have suitable hormontally positioned. upper and lower section cross braces 2 and 3 attached thereto for bracing the legs and holding them in their proper position.
The upper braces 2 have a table top 4 mounted thereon and attached thereto, which top is provided with a plurality of circular openings 5 formed therein, in neat spaced formation, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The openings 5 are made for receiving and snugly fitting blue print tubes or analogous articles such as indicated in dotted lines at 6 in Figs. 1, 3 and 4 of the drawings.
A plurality of cross braces or bars 7 and 8 are suitably attached to the lower horizontal braces 3 and the braces or bars 7 and 8 cross directly beneath the center of the opening 5 as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The bars 7 and 8 form supports upon which the bottoms of the tubes 6 rest.
Suitable reinforcing strips 10 are attached to the inner edges of the upper horizontal braces 2 and engage the under surface of the table top 4.
A plurality of vertical strips 11 are attached to the upper and lower horizontal braces 3 in any suitable manner, having their outer surfaces flush with the outer sides of the upper and lower braces, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. A plurality of sheets 12 of tin or analogous material are secured to the bracing strips 11, and inclose the upper portion of the interior of the table, above the crossed bars 7 and 8, forming an inclosure for the lower portions of the tubes 6.
The various joints of the filing table, may be mortise and tenon joint. or any other desirable joints, well known to the cabinet making art.
When blue print or analogous tubes as indicated in dotted lines at 6, are inserted in the openings 5, the upper ends of the tubes project above the table top 4, so that the tubes may be readily withdrawn from the openings if desired.
In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is en tion, of a supporting structure, horizontal braces for said supporting structure, a top, said top provided With a plurality of spaced circular openings, a plurality of crossed bars carried by said supporting structure and crossing directly beneath the center of said 13- openlngs, said cross bars forming supports for tubes inserted through said openings.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
' PAUL B. NEWMAN. Witnesses:
A HEBBEN FLORENCE STRAUBINGER.
