IMPROVEMENT IN HEATING STVES.
VSpecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,433, dated January 2, 1872.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILLIP BREGHER, of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and in the State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gannon-Stoves; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to that class of stoves known as cannon-stoves; and it consists in the. construction and arrangement of the stove-bar rel with the damper and grate, as ,will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the artl to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the anneXed drawing, `in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View ofthe stovebarrel. Fig. 2 is a similar'view of the base of the stove with the damper and grate. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the entire stove; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the damper and grate.
A represents the `cannon-stove barrel, provided around its lower end with a series of openings, a, a, of any suitable size and of any' and projecting over the damper B, as shown in Fig. 3, thereby preventing the ashes from gettin g between the sto ve-barrel and the damper, keeping it always clean and in good working order.
By means of this damper and the openings in the stove-barrel any quantity of draught may be given, or it may be entirely shut off. The usual poker-hole is obviated, and all coal must necessarily fall into the ash-pan in the base below.
The damper B is provided with an arm, It, projecting through a horizontal slot in the stove-barrel. By the use of this arm or handle the damper may be turned backward and forward, thereby shaking the grate and letting the ashes ou't.

what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Y Letters Patent, is
l. Supporting the grate of a cannon-stove upon and moving the samewith a circular damper arranged within the stove-barrel, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The interior circumferential flange e, projecting over the circular damper B, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combination of the barrel A with openings c a, circular damper B with openings' b b and arm iz, and the grateD, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth. Y
