JOHN A. FRY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO DETROIT STOVE WORKS, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
GAS-BURNER.
Appncatiim filed Aagust a1, 191e.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. Jouxv A. Fur, a citizen of the United States ot' Ann-rica, residingr at Detroit, 'in the county ot' ll'ayne and State of Michigan. have invented rer tain new and useful Improvements in (las- Burners, of which the 'following' is a specilication` reference being had therein to the aeconipauyinj;l drawings. i
'lhe invention relates to nas burners designed for use in fas stove ovens and ol' the type in which there arll a plurality ot separately controlled sections. ltis the object of the invention to providil a unit construction in which all set-tions ina'v lm iornled integral and ii. which provision is also made for ai'ltol'natif-.illy lighting' one section l'rolu another. Still further. it is an object to provide for the lig'l'lting ot one ot' the burner sections 'from a point in advance thereotl and for utilizing this latter for also lighting: the
with the section B. E is a tube in alineulent with the connection I), extending;r t'orward from the Section B, being also in interior communication with said section and stopped oli' at its forward end. lt isa bracebar (attending` between the sections A and B at the inner ends thereof. (i and G are slotted lugs at the inner end ot' the sections A and B for engagement with mechanical. support.
The construction as described is 'one which may be readily formed from an integral casting with the 'tubes D and E resywctively in communication with the sections A and l, as has been described. These tubes arc also provided with a series of jet apertures Il, which are in sufficiently close proximity to cause a travel of llame from one to the other, so as to form a` lighter. It will he noted, however, that there is no internal communication between the tubes D and E or hetween the sections A and B. Thus either Specification of Letters Patent.
seriai No. 117,851.
section may be independently controlled by its correspondim;r ras valve (not shown).
ln use. whenever it. is desired to light the forward section B. by turninclr on the gas it will he caused lo How into the tube E, so that it may be ignited from the forward end of said tribe. the flame carrying back to and lighting the, section B. is also desired' to light the rear section bv turning on the gas it. will flow through said section and tube l) into proximitv to the lighted `section l so that the Haine will trav1 from the latter to the former. Should it be desired to use the rear burner alone` the lighting is effected by first turning on the forward section B and light- Iatcntcd May 1, 1917.
If it' ing lfroin the saine the rear section, after which the forward section mav be turned ott.
The. :nlvantage ot' the construction is, first, its simplicity and low cost of manufacture; and second. the fact that the lighting is automatically effected for either section without the provision of a '1y separate valves or without the possibility ol any escape of `'as when only onesection is lighted.
that I claimA as lny invention is 1. Vln a gras burner, two spaced and separately-controlled sections, a connection extending transversely between said sections conlnnlnicating with one thcreol' only, and a lighter tube communicating with the other section. said sections` connection, and lighter tube having jet aperturesthe jet apertures of the lighter tube. ooaetng with those of the sections with which said tuhe'eoxnmnnicates to transmit a thune, to the jet apertures of the, other section across said connee/tion.
2. In a gas burner, comprising two internally discontinuous sections, a. brace member integrally connecting said sections at corresponding extremities thereof, a branch extending transversely between said sections communicating'with oneI thereof only, and a lighter tube extending.,lr forwardly from the other section.
In a ,eas burner, two substantially paralle] sections t'or resi'ieetively mounting at the front and back of an oven, a transverse connection between said sections havingr a passage communicating with the rial' section and terminating,r adjacent the forward section, and a lighter tube nlined With said connection comm unicating with the forward section and extendinnr forwardlv-therefrom,
to'r
said sections; connection and lighter tube be ling formed With a series of jet apertures.
4. In a gas-burner, two substantially parallel sections for respectively mounting at the front and back of an oven, a transverse connection between saidsections having a passage communicating with one section and terminating adjacent the other section, and a lighter tube alined with said connection communicating with the forward section and extending forwardly therefrom, said sections, connection and lighter tube being formed with a series of jet apertures.
5. In a gas burner, two substantially parallel sections for respectively-mounting at the front and back of an oven, a transverse connection between said sections having a passage obstructed intermediate the burners to cut olfcommunication between the same, anda lighter tube alined with said connection communicating with the forward section and extending forwardly therefrom, said sections, connection, and lighter tube being formed with a series of jet apertures where# by a flame may be transmitted from saidlighter tube to the forward burner and to the rear burner across said connectie".
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN A. FRY.
