UNITED STATES PATEN OFFICE.
I OLOF 1v. mnnn'ron, or STOGKHOLM, WISCONSIN.
FIGURE roY.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ()nor N. Hninnron, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Stockholm, in the county of Pepin and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Figure Toy, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to toys, and the object is to provide an automatic interesting toy'in the form of a human figure in the act of sawing wood upon a saw-horse with a common buck saw.- Another object is to so construct said toy that the spring motor operating the saw is concealed and it appears as if the man operates the saw while actually the man is" operated by the saw and the saw by an entirely concealed part of the motor.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an end elevation of the complete toy. Fig. 2 is a section on the line a-a in Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a partly sectional side elevation on the line b-b in Fig. 1 with the side ex tensions 3 omitted.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 1 designates a portable base, upon which is secured a saw horse or saw buck 2, having inclined side boards 3, which secure the end crosses 2 together and with the latterand the end boards 4 make up an inclosure, within which is secured a hollow metal frame 5, of a suitable clock work or spring motor, which in the; drawing is shown as having a main spring 6 on a spindle 7, arranged to be wound by a key 8.
Driven by the spring 6 is a gear 9, which drives a pinion 10 secured to agear 11,, and thelatter gear drives a pinion 12, fixed to a gear 13 fixed on a shaft 14; the latter having a crank 15, connected by a rod 16 to a rocker The latter shaft arm 17 of a rock shaft 18. p g is journaled in bearings 19 and provided with a toothed sector 20, which sector meshes with a'pinion 21, fixed on a shaft 22, which is journaled in the same bearings 19, and has upon its forward end aflixed a pinion 23, which meshes with a fiat rack 24 constitutingthe blade of the saw 25; said blade being guided by the saw kerf 26 in a log or stick 27 resting in the saw-buck and secured to it by nails like 28 (see Fig. 1) said stick having in its underside a cavity 29 concealing the pinion 23 and most of its shaft, the rest of the shaft is concealed between the upward extensions 3 of the sides 3.
fixed on the base, a stick a saw kerf, a

' the stick 27, while the other hand is fixed to the saw and provided with elbow joint ,32 and shoulder joint 33.
v To regulate the speed of the device, I provide in the motor frame a shaft 34 carrying a fan .35 and a pinion 36, which is driven by a gear 37, the latter is fixed on a shaft 38 having a pinion 39 driven by the gear 13.
In the frame work is mounted a small rod 10 having a sliding movement limited by a collar 41 and an offset 42. When this rod is pushed inward to its limit it engages the fan 35 and thereby stops the motor. Hence to start the device it is only necessary to have the main spring 6 wound, and then pull the rod 40 out of contact with the fan 35, and the device will run and by the oscillating pinion 23 reciprocate the saw and cause the right 'arm of the figure to move as if it was operating the saw.
What I claim is:
1. A toy comprising a base, a saw horse fixed on the base, a stick fixed on the saw horse in position to be sawed and having a saw kerf, a saw guided in the kerf and having teeth adapted to mesh with a gear I provided with joints and secured to the saw.
2. A toy comprising a base, a saw horse fixed on the base, a stick fixed on the saw horse in position to be sawed and having a saw kerf, a saw guided in the kerf and having teeth adapted to mesh with a gear pinion, a spring motor concealed within the saw horse and having an oscillated pinion meshing with the saw teeth, and a human figure fixed onthe base and having one hand provided with joints and secured to the saw, and the other hand secured upon the stick.
3. A toy comprising a fixed on the saw horse in position to be sawed and having saw guided in the kerf and having teeth adapted to mesh with a gear pinion, a spring motor concealed within the saw horse and having an oscillated pinion meshin with the saw teeth, and a human provided with joints and secured to the saw,
base, a saw horse and the other hand secured upon the stick, said stick having the saw kerf beyond the end of the saw horse and being provided in its underside with a cavity, and said motor having an oscillated shaft extending along said cavity and carrying the pinion engaging the saw blade.
4. A toy comprising a saw horse, a spring motor concealed Within the saW horse and having a train of gear Wheels and shafts, one of the shafts having a crank, a rock shaft having a crank and a toothed sector,
a rod connecting the two cranks, a shaft having two pinions one of which meshes with the sector, a saw having its teeth mesh ing with the other pinion, whereby the saw is 'reciprocated by the motor, and a figure having a member connected With the saw so as to be operated thereby, and a stick arranged on the saw horse and having akerf for the saw to move in.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
