JOI-IN SLATCHER, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOE-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,287, dated December 26, 1871.
To all 'whom 'it may concern.'
Beitknown that I, J oEN SLATCHER, of Bridgeport, in the county `of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Shoe-Fastenings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and ex act description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the anneXed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and gures of reference y marked thereon.

Fig. 4 is a face view Fig. 5 is a side View of hook c. Fig. 6 is a side view of hook F. Fig. 7 is afaoe view of hook F. Fig. 8 is a side View and partial section of device referred to in Fig. l.
This invention has relation to shoe-fastenings; and the novelty consists in the construction and .arrangement of the devices, herein set forth, in-
tended for fastening and unfastening shoes.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention, A represents a spiral spring, made of wire. One end is secured in a permanent manner to one side of the shoe opening by means of a small plate, B, which is made with a tongue, b, entering and soldered to the end of the spring.

The plate B is perforated at b', and is stitched On the opposite side of the shoe opening is arranged a small plate, C, provided 'with a loop, D, to catch and hold a hook on the movable end of the spring. The hook is marked e, and has a stem which is inserted into the end of the spring and there soldered, with the hook turned down in a position to grasp the loop D.
