LUBBICATOR FOR LEAF-SPRINGS.
Application filed November 22, 1916. Serial No.
2"@ all whom ii mcy veneers:
Be it known ther. We, FRANK A. Sci-roem. and HERMAN Binnen, cinzens of the United Shiites, residing si Cleveland, in the county oi' Cuyahoga ind Stede of Ohio, have invertred certain new and useful Improvements lnihriceiors for 'Leef-Springs, of which Jche L' llovving is n specilicriision.
rlhis invention relates to lubricators for springs, especially leef springs used on moior 'vehicles or the like, end it has for its ohjecsio provide :i simple and efficient; device for thev purpose seatedV which can he quickly and easily applied to ii spring, and which is capable of adjustment to li. springs ci various sizes.
The device comprises a. pair of holders or casings containing pads to which oil may be supplied, these holders being applied to pp posiize sides ef *che spring and held in place hy springs coiinectingl the respective holders.
The invention is illustrated in lie accompanying drawing in which:
, Figure l is eperspecire view illusriiting ypplied lio a spring.
2 e side elevation.
Fig. is e. top plan vievnpartly in section. Fig. i is e. deieil of one o "che holders.
Fig. 5 is n side elevation showing,r the holder applied so a thick spring.
.Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicarse n ieei' spring; to 1which the lubrica ser is applied. This lubricstor comprises :i pair ci holders each of which consists of e sheet ineizel plete 7 of substantially diamond shape, or longer iii one direction than in n direction perpendicular thereto. The edges of i:his plete are turiiedxin as indicaied'at 8, so reiein s. pad 9, ci felt or the like. At two edjnceni; corners the metal is struck up to form a cup or opening l0 through which oil may be supplied io the pad from an oil cnn. The remaining corners of each plete have holes l1.
ln ihe use of lie device, the holders are applied so opposite sides of the spring, and are connected shove end below by coiled springs 12 the ends of hooked into the openings formed by the cups and the holes 11. These springs clamp the pads against the sides of folie vehicle spring and retain the holders Imposition Specification of Letters Patent.

without interfering with the normal action of the leaf spring, the vibration of which induces a flow of oil frein the pads between the contacting faces oi' `the leaves.
For use on a relatively thin spring, as show vii iii lligil, the holders are placed with their longer axes parallel to the spring. For use on thicker springs, as shown in Fig. 5, che holders are placed with their longer axes crosswise of the spring, the coiled springs l2 being' changed to the corresponding corners of Jche holders. In either position, one of the cups l() is presented upiviirdly to receive the oil supply which sonlis into the pad for the sensed purpose.
'Vliet We claiinas new is:
l. A lu'ericntor for leef springs, comprisl ing a pair of holders and ednped to be applied to opposite sides of the spring, said holders being longer in one direction than another, end coizneciions beiween the holdersengngeahle therewith either longer or shorter holders may he applied ent thicknesses.
2. A. lubricaior for leef springs, coiiiprisQ ing e holder provided Wih e 1 ed and edfipiied lso he applied to the side olla spring, seid; holder having longer and shox-ier axes, and retaining devices eiigageahle with the holder the same on the spring.
3. A lubricator for leef springs, comprising a holder provided with e pad and iidepized to be applied to the side or a spring, seid holder having longer and shorter axes, and retaining devices engngeable with the holder at either axis, to hold the same on the spring, seidrholder also having oil supply openings al; points correspondingl to the difierent circs.
4. A lubriezior for leef springs, comprising a pair of diamondshziped holders provided with pads und adapted to he applied to opposite sides of thc spring, and retaining springs connecting the opposite holders and engagezible with various corners thereof.
in testimony whereof we do ai'x our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
