WINDOW-SHADE ROLLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented-Apia to, 191% To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRANVILLE E. Soor'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Foreman, in the county of Little River and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in "Window-Shade Rollers, of which the following is a specifioation.
This invention is' an improved window shade roller provided with means for raising and lowering the shade and also provided with means to prevent casual rotation of the roller, so that the shade is held in any desired adjusted position.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved window shade roller of this character which is cheap and simple in construction, which may be readily put up and taken down and by means of which the window shade may be readily operated at will and easily and quickly connected with the supporting brackets, the means for preventing casual rotation of the roller being especially designed to accomplish this purpose in a shade roller of this character.
The invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of devices, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window shade roller constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention showing the same mounted and also showing one of the rackets or fixtures in vertical section.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
The roller 1 is provided at the ends with spindles 2, 3, which are respectively mounted in bearing openings in the arms of a pair of brackets or fixtures l, 5. The bracket 5 also has a downwardly extending arm or rod 6 which is provided with an out-turned lower end having a guide eye 7. On the outer end of the spindle 3 is a drum 8. A shade operating cord 9 is attached to the drum and wound thereon in an opposite direction to the shade 10. The operating cord passes through the guide eye 7 and is provided at its lower end with a suitable knob 11. When the cord is pulled and caused to unwind on the drum and rotate the latter, the shade roller is turned by the drum and caused to roll up the shade as will be understood. When the shade is pulled down the drum winds up the cord and raises the knob 11. Hence the shade may be readily operated and raised and lowered at will.
To hold the shade roller against casual turning and thus keep the shade in any desired adjusted position, I provide a pair of washers or friction members 12 and 13, of concave-convex shape in cross section and which are arranged on the spindle 3 on opposite sides of the fixture or bracket 5 with their convex faces in opposed relation, the washer 12 being next to one end of the roller. I also provide a coil spring 1 1 which is arranged on the spindle 3 and which extends between the Washer 13 and the inner end of the drum. The spring causes the convex face of the washer 13 to bear against the outer side of the fixture 5 and also draws the roller endwise so that the convex face of the washer 12 bears against the inner side of said fixture, so that the washers and spring not only serve to prevent casual rotation of the roller in the brackets but the convex faces of the washers facilitate the arrangement of the arm on the bracket 5 between the disks while mounting the roller in the brackets. The friction between the fixture, the washer, and hence on the spindle in its bearing is such as to prevent casual rotation of the shade roller and hence the shade is secured in any desired adjusted position.
Having described the invention,.what is claimed is:
In a device of the class described, the combination with spaced brackets having arms thereon and a shade roller having spindles at the ends thereof engaged by said arms, of a spring-pressed disk on one of said spindles engaging the outer face of one of said arms, a second disk on said spindle engaging the inner face of the arm on said bracket and bearing against an end on said roller, said disks being of convex-concave shape in cross In testimony whereof I aiiix my signasection and havlng their convex faces arture.
ranged in opposed relation to facilitate the GRANVILLE E. SCOTT. passing of the arm on said bracket between Witnesses:
5 the disks when the shade roller is being CARL SOHUMAN,
mounted in the brackets. W. F. ANDERSON.
