To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CLARENCE Linn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Granite City, in the county of Madison and State of lllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Box-Liners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

hily invention has relation to improvements in box linings; and it consists in the novel features of construction more fully set forth in the specification and oointed out in the claims.

The present invention is directed particul arly to the lining of tobacco and ci boxes which are generally lined with a thin sheet of veneer of wood or suitable composition, the object sought being to secure the lining to the box walls in such a way as to hold the same against longitudinal and rotary displacem nt, and further to secure it in such a ay as to prevent the lining from detaching itself or becoming loose as result of contraction or expansion brought about by variations in atmospheric conditions. The lining as constructed may of course be applied to boxes of any kind, the same not being necessarily restricted in its application to tobacco and cigar boxes, the latter being but a single example of container in which the lining may be used to advantage. Thus it will be seen that the wall liner 3 is anchored at one end to the liner 2, the dove-tail recess 1' holding the wall liner against radial movement or movement inwardly away from the box walls, the wedge shaped faces w, w, on the other hand preventing an opening of the seam s or parting of the edges a, e; and the clenchers 4t, 4:, locking the upper end of the wall liner to the box walls against longitudinal displacement and displacement inwardly or away from the walls. The wall linerwill thus remain anchored to the walls of the box irrespective of any shrinkage or contraction it may undergo as a result of changes in atmospheric conditions. To permit folding of the prongs l, l, over the liner 3, the corners of the latter necessarily must be cut to conform to the V-shaped notch V (Fig. 6).

I do not of course wish to restrict the application of the invention to tobacco or cigar boxes, or to sheet metal boxes or to boxes of aprismatic form. The invention may be applied to any lined receptacle whatsoever and of any form; neither do I wish to be limited to any specific material entering into the construction or composition of the liners.

Having described my invention what I claim is:

1. A box wall-liner comprising a flexible sheet insertible into the box and having its opposite ends brought into abutting relation, and means in the box at one end of the Copies of this patent may be obtained for seam thus formed for drawing said ends into firm engagement.

2. In combination with a box closed at one end, an end liner provided with a marginal dove-tail recess or groove, a wall-liner comprising a flexible sheet disposed along the inner Walls of the box and proportioned to have its free ends come into opposed relation when the sheet is deposited in the box, and suitable tongue sections at adjacent terminals of the free ends aforesaid jointly forming a tongue engaging the dove-tail recess aforesaid.

3. In combination with a'bOX closed at one end, an end liner provided with a marginal dove-tail recess having sidewalls sloping toward the base of the recess, comprising a sheet disposed along the inner walls of the box and proportioned to have its free ends come into contiguous and opposed relation when the sheet is deposited in the box, and suitable tongue sections at adjacent terminals of the free ends of the wall liner forming jointly a tongue insertible into the recess aforesaid, the sides of the tongue being beveled to conform to the slope of the sides of the recess. 1
