To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, llAunv l-I. S'rYLL and HAnoLo K. IAnsoNs, citizens of the 'United States, residing at Southbridge, in the county of Worcester and Stute of Mussachusetts, have invented certnin new and ,useful Improvements in LensSlotting Machines, of which the following` is a specification.
Our invention relates. to improvements in lens slotting machines, :ind has for its lendingobject the provision of a simple, inexpensive und durahle constriu'ztion, h v the use of which a slot of any desired size or shupe may be formed in the lens, ond in :my desired relation to the geometrical axes thereof.
A further object of our invention is the provision of an improved device of this character Vwhich may he used as a chart or protroctor for laying out the geometrical. axis, direction of slot, variety of slot or the like, if desired, in addition'to serving,r :is a slotting guide.
Other 'objects and advantages of our improved construct-ion should he readily npparent by reference to the following description taken in connection With the accomponying drawings, and it will be understood that we may make any modifications in the specific details of construction shown and described -within the scope of the ipi'aended claims Without departing from or exceeding the spirit of our invention.

In addition to the several series of straight lines just described We may if desired place on the table 9 at any desired relation to the edge thereof one or more ellipses 16, denoting various standards, sizes andI shapes of lenses, so that by placing of a lens with its edge fitting one of these ellipses the geometrical Will ho caused to coincide with the axis' designating line onthe table.

It is to be noted in connection with'the first ,described form of our. inventionthat .and out movement contro led vas by theoperating leveikl. As a. result of this arrangement either the lens 35 to be, out or slotted may be moved inwardly into engagement with thevouttin disk 4 or the lever 34 may be depressed to ring the disk forward into cutting vrelelifn to the table 9.
