To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, REA P.-WR1GHT',a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pressure-Roll Releases for Clothes 1 Wringers, of which the following is a speci fication, reference being hadtherein to the acompanying drawing.

This invention relates 'to certain new and useful improvements in a pressure roll release for clothes wringers, the object being to provide a wringer having slidably mounted pressure screw boxes normally held in predetermined position by releasing members which can be readily actuated through the medium of a push button so as to allow said boxes to move Vertically in order to release the pressure instantaneously on the pressure rolls,

Another object of my invention is to provide a pressure release in which the releas ing members are connected together by a chain in order to enable the construction of release to be applied to Wringers of different sizes by increaslng or diminishing the length of the chain. 4

Another and further object'of the invention is to provide means for limiting the upplication of my improved construction of pressure release thereto and Fig. 2 is a perspective View, of the end portion of the top bar showing the bearing sleeve and threaded box.

A vertical bore 10 is formed in the top bar 9 adjacent each end in which is arranged a bearing sleeve 11 which is preferably formed slightly tapered, and is adapted to be forced into the bore 10 from the under side of the bar in order to prevent the bearing from moving vertically out of the top bar. Slidably mounted in each of by a top bar 9 fixed within theslots of the the bearings 11 of the top bar 9 isa cylin- Y drical internally threaded box 12 which is provided with a vertical groove 13 into which is. adapted toextend a stop 14 secured on top of the bar as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, said stop limiting the upward movement of the threaded boxes 12 within the bearing 11 and preventing the same from rotating within the bearing. ,By this construction a sliding. nonrotatable box is mounted in each end of the top bar, the

upward movement of which is limited in order to prevent the same from jumping out of thetop bar as will be hereinafter fully described.

Mounted within each of the threaded boxesul2 is a pressure screw 15 which is adapted to engage one of the bearing plates 7 of the pressure bar 8 in order to allow the pressure on the pressure rolls to be adjusted through the medium of the'pressure springs.

In the operation of the release as herein shown and described when the wringer with its pressure rolls and pressure means are in the position as shown in Fig. 1, the pressure rolls are under pressure and operate on the clothes in the ordinary manner. The pressure screws are adjusted in the threaded boxes so that the pressure can be increased 'or diminished on the pressure rolls. When it is desired to instantaneously release the pressure on the pressure rolls in case ofa foreign object being drawn between the pressure rolls, the push button 22 is struck a blow by the operator which forces the chain 20 downwardly so as to draw the releasing bars 17 out of the notches 18 of the pressure means, releasing bars for holding said boxes in position within said frame, a

- chain connecting said releasing bars, and a push button mounted in said frame above said chain cooperating therewith on the downward movement thereof for moving said releasing bars out of engagement with said boxes.

2. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a top bar for said frame having sliding non-rotatable internally threaded boxes mounted therein, pressure screws mounted in said boxes for adjusting said pressure-means, said boxes having notches, releasing bars arranged in said notches, a chain connecting said releasing bars, and a push button coiiperating with said .chain for moving said. releasing bars out of the notches o fsaid boxes for allowing said boxes to move vertically within said top bar.

A clothes wringer, comprising a frame 7 having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a top bar for said frame having vertical bores, fixed sleeves mounted in said bores, internally threaded boxes slidably mounted in said bearing sleeves provided with longitudinal grooves, stops carried by said top bar extending into the groove of said boxes for limiting the upward movement thereof, pressure screws mounted in said'boxes for adjusting said pressure means, retaining ing bars, and a push button mounted in said top bar cooperating with said chain for moving said releasing bars out of engagement with said boxes for releasing said pressure means.

A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a top bar fixed in said frame, a bearing sleeve secured in said top bar adjacent each end, an internally threaded box slidably mounted in each of said bearing sleeves having a notch, pressure screws carried by said boxes for adjusting said pressure means, releasing bars slidably mounted on the under side of said top bar extending into the notches of said boxes, a chain connecting the inner ends of said releasing bars, a spring actuated push button slidably mounted in said top bar and adapted to cooperate with said chain for moving said releasing bars out of the notches of said boxes for releasing said pressure means.

A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a top bar fixed in said frame having slidably mounted boxes at each end carrying pressure screws for adjusting said pressure means, means for limiting the upward movement of said boxes within said top bar, releasing bars slidably carried by said topbar for holding said boxes in predetermined position within said top bar, a chain connecting the inner ends of said releasing bars, and a push button mounted in said top bar for depressing said chain for moving said releasing bars out of engagement with said boxes for releasing said pressure means.

6. A clothes wringer comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, movably mounted boxes carrying means for adjusting said pressure means, releasing bars detachably engaging said boxes for holding said boxes in predetermined position within said frame,

means for limiting the movement of said boxes, a chain connecting the inner ends of said releasing bars, and means cooperating with said chain for moving said releasing bars out of engagement with said boxes for releasing said pressure means.

A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a top bar fixed in said frame having a bore adjacent each end, a bearing sleeve fixed in said bore, an internally threaded box slidably mounted in said bearing sleeve having a longitudinally disposed groove terminating short of its lower end, a stop fixed on said top bar extending into said groove for limiting the upward movement of said top bar for preventing said box from rotating Within said sleeve, said box having a notch at its lower end, re-

leasing bars carried by said top bar extending into the notches of said boxes, a chain connecting the inner ends of said releasing bars, and a spring supported push button slidably mounted in said top bar above said chain for depressing said chain on the downward movement thereof for moving said releasing bars out of the notches of said boxes for releasing said pressure means.

8. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a topbar fixed in said frame, sliding pressure screw carrying boxes mounted in said top bar having means for limiting the upward movement thereof, said boxes being provided with notches, guide members secured to the under side of said top bar, releasing bars slidably mounted in said guide members adapted to extend into the notches of said boxes, said releasing bars being provided with eyes at their inner ends, a chain having its end links secured within the eyes of said. releasing bars,- said top bar having a vertical bore above said chain, a push button slidably mounted in said bore adapted to cooperate with said chain for moving said releasing bars out of the notches of said boxes for releasing said pressure means,

A clothes wringer comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls, movably mounted members carrying means for adjusting said pressure means, releasing bars detachably engaging said members,'a chain connecting said releasing bars, and means cooperating with said chain for moving said releasing bars out of engagement with said members for releasing said pressure means.
