Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 20, 1917.
Application filed October 14, 1916. Serial No. 125,709.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD P. S'roL'rz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in File-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certainimprovements in file holders and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of. this general character having novel and improved means whereby a file may be effectively held in such a position as to permit the holder to be effectively employed in jointing a saw.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved file holder whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, T will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the ac companying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional View taken through a holder constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, a coacting file being shown in fragment in one position and a second position of the file being indicated by dotted lines;
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the device as herein embodied;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevational view of the holder as herein disclosed; and
Fig. 1 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line H of Fig. 1.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a body of predetermined configuration having provided in one end thereof a socket Qadapted to receive a shank 3 of a file F and of a type generally employed in sharpening teeth of saws or the like. The body 1 is also provided with the clamping screw 4: adapted to coact with the shank 3 of the file F for holding the same in applied position relative to the body 1.
gular to the longitudinal axis of the body 1 and intersecting said axis.
When the file F is applied within the enlarged iortion 6 of the slot 5, flat surface will be afforded which will serve to operate he proper jointing of a saw, it being understood that the toothed margin of the saw is to be positioned within the slot 5.
It has also been found desirable to have the end portion of the slot 5 adjacent the socket 2 defined by the spaced ears 7 whereby an effective cooperation between the holder and the saw during the jointing operation is assured.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a file holder constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremelv simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice, except as hereinafter claimed.
'1 claim:
A file holder comprising an elongated body provided with a longitudinal slot in one of its faces, the base of said slot being enlarged and being arranged in a plane angular to the longitudinal axis of the body and intersecting said axis, an end portion of said slot being defined by transversely alined cars.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
EDVABD P. STOLTZ.
