To all wlwmz't may concern Be it known that I, Mivrnrixs Pnnnnson, a citizen of the Unit-ed States, residing at Fargo, in the county of Cass and State of North Dakoh, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Radiator- Valves, of which the following is av specification.-
This invention relates to improvements in vent valves or regulating valves for steam radiators and its object is to provide means whereby the steam in the radiator may be kept below a certain pressure and the temperature about the radiator kept nearly constant thereby. The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in this specification, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of the specification and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved valve.
Fig. 2 is a cross section on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan of the lower portion of the valve body, the upper portion and the greater part of the interior being removed.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation, partly in section, with the movable parts in an altered position.
Fig. 5 is an inverted plan view with the base of the valve broken to afford a better illustration.
Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the counterweight employed.
Fig. 7 is a side elevation of the same.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the lower body portion of my valve which is fed by the steam pipe 2 connected to the radiator (not shown). The valve portion 1 is provided with the cap or cover portion 3 which is provided with the integral neck portion t that serves as a seat for the head provided with the stem (3 that extends through the central perforation in the said neck l. The stem 6 is provided at its lower end with the three radial wings 7 that are provided with pins 8 disposed in the elongated slotted portions 9 of the bifurcated ends 10 of the angular levers 11 which are pivotally supported, at approximately their longitudinal centers, upon the pins 12 carried by the bifurcated lugs 13 that depend from the inner surface of the cap or cover 3. The levers 11 are also slotted longitudinally as at l i for engagement with the pins 15 of bifurcated lugs 16 carried by the dome-shaped float 17, the lower edge or rim of which is a size to snugly fit inside the upper edge of the lower body portion of the valve as shown.
Depending from the under surface of the top of the float are the bifurcated lugs 18 that carry pins 19 in engagement with the longitudinally slotted portions 20 of straight levers 21 fulcrumed upon lugs 22 carried by fingers 23 secured to the inner periphery of the lower body portion of the valve. Each straight lever 21 is connected to the counterbalance weight 2& which, with the steam at a given pressure or below the same, is suflicient to retain the float in raised relation with the lower body portion of the valve, thus keeping the head 5 in close engagement with the neck 1-. hen the steam rises above the predetermined pressure the float will be raised and the valve head 5, through its connections with said float, moved down upon the neck 4: and the circulation of the heating medium checked causing the radiator to cool. hen pressure upon the float 17 is reduced the weights will lower the float again and raise head 5 permitting uninterrupted circulation.

A radiator valve comprising a lower valve body portion provided with a steam pipe, a cap fitted to said lower valve portion and provided with a neck, a head adapted for releasable engagement with said neck, a valve stem carried by said head and eX- tending through said neck into said cap, radial arms carried by said valve stem, a float movable with relation to said lower valve body portion, lugs carried upon the outer periphery of said float, angular levers suspended from the inner periphery of said cap and connected to said lugs and the said radial arms and permitting limited relative movement of said members; lugs depending from the inner periphery of said float, levers fulcrumed within said float below said lugs and weights terminally carried by said levers.

A radiator valve comprising a lower body portion provided with a steam pipe, a cap fitted to said lower valve portion and provided with a neck, a head adapted for releasable engagement with said neck, a stem carried by said head and extending through said neck, radial arms terminally carried by said stem a float fitted snugly and movably within the upper portion of the lower body portion of the valve, lugs carried by the outer periphery of said float, pivotally supported elements connecting said lugs and the said radial arms whereby limited relative movement of the one with relation to the other is permitted, motion beyond a fixed limit being transmitted from said lugs to said arms; lugs depending from the inner periphery of said float, levers fulcrumed in said lower valve-body portion and pivotally connected to said last named lugs and 15 In testimony that I claim the foregoing 20 as my OWIl I have hereto affixed my signature 1n the presence of tWo subscribing W1tnesses.
