JOHN LEGKIE, OF CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA.
REVOLVING ACCOUNT-REGISTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 13, 1917.
Application filed January 27, 1915. Serial No. 4,806.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, J OHN LECKIE, a subject of King George of Britain, residing at falgary, in the Province of Alberta, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and useful Revolving Account-Register, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for filing bills or other papers, in numerical or alphabetical order in a cabinet, in which indexed leaves with spring clips thereon, affording a support for the bills or papers, are pivoted vertically about the periphery of a revolving cylinder; and the objects of my invention are, first, to provide a series of indexed leaves pivoted in such a manner that any of the leaves may be brought in rotation before the eye of the observer; second, to inclose the leaves aforesaid in a suitable cabinet giving visual access from one side only; third, to provide for the easy removal of the leaves separately or complete as a whole with the cylinder attached for storage in a vault or safe deposit.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanaying drawings, in which, Figure l, is a top view or plan of p the device looking from above with the cover plate removed; Fig. 2, a vertical sectional elevation through the center looking from front to rear; Fig. 3, a vertical section through the center looking from right to left.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The table or base C, with the vertical spindle A, secured at its lower end to the base C, constitutes the foundation of the device. On the spindle A, is slipped the cylinder B, which has perforated projected flanges at either end, the whole revolving freely on the spindle A. The indexed leaves F, F, of sheet metal or other substance have pintles secured to their inner edges, which pintles engaging in the perforated projected flanges of cylinder B, form a hinge allowing each leaf to swing radially from its inner edge,
in a vertical plane. On each leaf is formed a lug bearing a reference letter or numeral, and to each leaf are fastened the spring clips H, H, for the support of the papers to be filed. Each leaf has a radial motion about its own aXis and a cyclic motion about the axis of the revolving cylinder B. A clearance is left between the top edge of each leaf F, and theupper projecting flange of cylinder B, greater than the projection of the pintle beyond the lower edge of leaf, so that by an upward movement of the leaf F, the lower pintle will disengage with the flange of cylinder B, allowing a sidewise and downward motion to clear the upper pintle to remove the leaf from engagement with the cylinder.
To the base C, is secured the semi-cylin drical easingD, having hinged to its free ends the doors E, E, capable of swinging through the positions shown in drawings. The top of the cabinet G, is secured in such a manner as to be easily removable permitting when removed, the removal of cylinder B. with the leaves F, F, attached, for storage in a vault or safe.
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination in a filing device, more particularly adapted to accounts and invoices, of a vertical support revolubly mounted and a number of leaves pivotally mounted thereon to swing horizontally and having index tabs and spring clips contained in a cabinet with semicircular back and folding doors on the front opening outward to give secrecy, and a removable'top to facilitate the easy substitution of leaves and the whole mounted on a base as described in the specification.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
