ICE-CREEPER.
specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 14, 1916. Serial N o. 72,039.
To all wlwm t may] concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM II. GERM, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Creepers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in ice Creepers, and has for its object a Creeper constructed in such a manner as to properly fit over and under the heel of each shoe or boot. the bottom being provided with serrated extensions and a spike, and a strap whereby the device is firmly held in position over the boot.
A further object of my invention is to construct an ice-Creeper out of light, durable material and to be properly clamped to the heel, the bottom of the creeper being provided with side and rear toothed extensions, and a spike projecting from the bottom; the point of such spike projecting a short distance below the teeth of the projections.
Figure 1, is a side view of a shoe or boot showing the application of my invention.
Fig. 2, is a detail top plan view of my invention.
Fig. 3, is a bottom plan view of the same.
Fig. 4, is a central vertical sectional view of the same taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
In the construction of my invention I provide an ice-Creeper provided with a skeleton bottom as that indicated by the numeral 5, the front or straight edge of the bottom being bent upwardly forming an elongated flange 6, which is designed to l'it against the boot or straight portion of the heel. The
plate which forms the bottom 5 is curvedV as that shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and arranged to conform to the curvature of the rear p0rtion of the heel; and at the back of this plate is formed va right-angular projection 7 the eXtreme bottom edge being provided with a plurality ofteeth 8. Attached to this plate is a side frame 9, the same being so constructed as to have its rear Yportion 10 higher than the remaining portion and the sides are properly curved or tapered downwardly toward the front as that shown in Figs. 1 and 4. Each of the sides are provided with an elongated slot l1, in these slots are firmly fastened the ends of a strap 12, one end of which is provided with a buckle 13, by which both straps are connected together for supporting the creeper in position on thc heel asthat shown in Fig. 1.
The sidesV are also provided with downwardly projecting extensions 14, the bottom of which being provided with teeth 15, and these extensions are in conformity with integral projections 16, forming a part of the bottom 5, and these extensions are supported together by means of rivets or other fastening devices 17.
. Patented Mar. 13, 1917. l
The plate 5is also provided with a spike 18,
this spike is properly riveted to the bottom at the point shown in the illustration and the sharp point thereby projecting a slight distance beyond the `serrations or teeth formed on the projections.
Having fully described my invention What Iclaim is An ice-creeper of the class described comprising a skeleton bottom plate, integral downward projections formed thereon, the bottom edge of the projections provided with serrations, a spike projecting from and beneath the bottom plate, an upwardly projecting flange forming the front end of the bottom plate, a side plate fastened to the bottom plate and rivets for connecting the same, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I have signed-my name to this speciication, in presence of two subscribing witnesses. e
