CHARLES WV. FELLGREN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BUILDING CONSTRUCTIGN.
Appiication med rem-nary 2o,
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. FELL- GREN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Building Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in building constructions and more especially to lioor constructions therefor, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and reliable concrete l'loor construction which is,
indestructible by fire, and which may be readily repaired in case of fire.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which, l
Figure l is a perspective view partially in section of a oorconstruction embodying my invention, and
Fig. 2, a transverse section of the same.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawing comprises a concrete body 3 having securing members fr and 5 embedded therein vand extending therethrough. Each of the members 4l and 5 is provided with ends 6 .which project from cach side of the body 3 andare offset with respect to the body portions of said members so as to be more securely anchored in body 3. .Each of the securing members 4 and 5 is provided at one edge adjacent the bottom thereof with a laterally opening downwardly extending notch 7 and lin the -other edge adjacent the top thereof with a latereXtending notch 8. Transverse rods or bars 9 and 10 are inserted in notches 7' and 8 respectively and other bars 'Il are placed on bars 9 at right angles thereto. Bars 9 and ll are secured in position by bending the edges of notches 7 in securing members 5 over bars ll and by bending the edges 13 onotches 8 over bars 10, as shown. After the parts have been thus securely bound together, the concrete body 3 is formed thereover by providing any suitable form of a mold. The securing members 4 and 5 are arranged in rows with the Specification of Letters Patent.

permit of the positioning of the bars 9 and l0, as set forth above. members 4 and 5 in each row are alternately arranged in opposite positions so that their projecting 4ends -are distanced apart laterally to permit of the therebetween. These strips lll are secured in place by passed through perforations ends 6 and the flooring boards 16 are secured .to the upper strips 14, and a ceiling 17 ofthe next room below is secured -to the lower strips 14, thus completing the floor construe- ZOII. l By this arrangement a strong durable con'-l struction is afforded and one in which in.` case of lire all that could be destroyed would.` be the Hoor or ceiling and the wooden strips 14. However,
placing of wooden strips 14:
the projectingend 6 `will Vre-l a simple means for re- Also, the securingmeans of nails or screws provided -in the building the floor or ceiling, as will be read-1 ily understood.
-While Ihave illustrated and described the l preferred form of construction for carryin my invention into edect, this iscapable o variation and modilcation without departing from the spirit ofthe invention. I',
therefore, do not wish to the projecting ends of said members being offset from the body portions thereof and said members being provided With downwardly extending notches be limited to the' exactfdetails of construction set forth, but9 invention what body and `projecting from in their sides within said body, said membcrsvbeing arranged in said body, in rows,
the members in each row registering with the members in the other rows and the adjacent membersin each row being oppositely positioned so that said projecting ends are adapted to engageoppositesides of securing strips; transverse' bars resting in said notches; bars arranged at right angles to seid transverse bers ancl resting thereon, 'the En testimony' Wheeof I have signa-:ci my edges of said notches being bent over said name to this speeieetien in the presence of last mentionedbars; Wooden strips secured two Subscribing witnesses. to the rojecting ends o-said securing mem CHARLES YV. FELLGR'EN bers; fooi-ing boards secured to zhe upper "Winesses: e Strips; ande ceiling secured to the lower JOSHUA R. Po'r'rs, stips, substmtiaiy as described. HELEN F, LiLLIs.
