do hereby declare the following to be a full,

clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an adjustable connection for dress forms, it being the object and purpose primarily of the invention to provide a device of this character in which a yielding frictional connection of the various sections of a dress forminay be had which ordinarily holds the sections against accidental displacement, but'which, on the application of sutficient force permits the ready movement of the sections toward or away from each other yet holds the sections in any position to which they may be adjusted by reason of the frictional resistance. A further object and purpose of the invention consists in the provision of a device of this character in which the member which provides the frictional resistance is covered and concealed making a. construction which is more compact and which presents a much neater appearance than those theretofore used. A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a means for practically locking the sections against movement after they have been adjusted to any desired position and further in the use of the member which houses and conceals the frictional element as the locking element of the device.

Various other objects and purposes than those specifically enumerated will also be apparent as the description progresses of the preferred embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:

- The dress form to which my invention is appliedis comprised of a plurality of sections 1 which when fitted and connected together simulate the human form. Various sections are connected together side by side and adjacent upper and lower sections are connected together use being made of fiat sheet metal members 2 each having a longitudinal slot 3 and secured at one end by means of rivets or other permanent connections 4 to one section and extended over the adjacent section to which metal members 5 are rigidly secured by rivets or other suitable permanent connections 6 as shown. One end of each member 5 is free and has passing therethrough a threaded bolt 7 it also passing through the slot 3 of a sheet metal member 2 which projects thereover. A flat washer 8 is then placed around the bolt 7 lying directly against the member 2. Above this is laid a well known form of split ring lock nut washer 9, the ends at the parting in the washer 9 being separated as Over washer 9 a. cap or housing 10 is placed it being shaped with a convex outer surface and having .its edges 11- turned so as to lie a short distance above the member 2 with which .it is associated. A nut 12 is threaded onto the bolt 7. I have shown a common and wellknown form of wing nut, though it is to be understood that any form of nut,

will serve the purpose of binding the parts together.

-W"hen the parts are assembled as described and the wing nut turned so as to just bear against the outer surface of the housing 10, parts 2 and 5 may be adjusted freely with respect to each other permitting the adjustment of the sections 1 with respect to each other. As the nut 12 is turned farther on covered and concealed by the housing or cap 10. l/Vhen sections of a form have been adjusted to a desired position a further tightening of the wing nut 12 causes the edges 11 of the housing 10 to come into engagement with the member 2 whereby a practical lock is provided which permits no movement of members 2 and 5 with respect to each other without application of a greater degree of force than a dress form is ordinarily subjected to or designed to withstand.

An adjustable connection of the character described is very economically produced and serves its desired functions perfectly. The washers 8 and 9 being covered by the housing 10, the construction presents a very neat appearance. Slight changes in minor detail of construction may be resorted to Without departing from my invention which is defined in the appended claims and, accordingly, I consider myself entitled to all modifications of structure falling within their scope.

1. In a dressform, a plurality of form sections, a member provided with a longitudinal slot fixed at one end to a section and extending over an adjacent section, a second member secured to said adjacent section, a screw threaded bolt attached to the second member and extending through the slot of the first member, a washer placed around the bolt and against the first member, a split ring lock Washer placed around the bolt and against said first washer, a cap having a convex outer and concave inner surface placed around the bolt and against the split ring washer, said cap covering and concealing both washers, and a nut threaded on the bolt against said cap.

I11 a dress form, a plurality of form sections, an elongated sheet metal member provided with a longitudinal slot secured at one end to a section and extending over an adjacent section, a second sheet metal member fixed to said adjacent member, a screw bined with means for yieldingly securing said members together against accidental movement yet permitting said members to move with respect to each other on application of sufficient force thereto, and a hous ing for said last mentioned means, substantially as described.

4. In combination, a dress form section, a member provided with a longitudinal slot secured to and projecting from said section,

' a second section lying adjacent the first section over which said member extends, a screw threaded bolt permanently secured to the second section, said bolt passing through the slot in said member, a nut threaded onto the bolt, a housing cap under the nut, and a yielding element under and covered by said cap interposed between the cap and said slotted member.

5. In combination, a dress form section, a member provided with a longitudinal slot secured to and projecting from said section, a second section lying adjacent the first section over which said member extends, a screw threaded bolt permanently secured to the second section. and passing through the slot in said member, a nut threaded on to the bolt, a yielding element around the bolt, and a housing cap immediately under the nut having depending sides which on tightening the nut sufiiciently engage with said member thereby locking the sections against movement with respect to each other.
