SAMUELCHALIK'IAN, or rrirLADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
TOY GUN.
Application filed February 23, 1,916.
To all whom z't may concern.'
Be it known that I, SAMUEL CHALIKIAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, in the countyy of Philadelphia and Staterof Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Guns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toy'guns, and has for its objects the production of a gun either in the shape of a pistol for the amusement of children, or in the form of a musket for marching clubs, the gun being' adapted, when lired, to eject, unfold and display an'umbrella, parachute and` like objectsV adapted to display various mottoes and insignia, such `.inasnthe Stars and Stripes.
With the above and related objects in view,
my invention comprises theV construction, combination and arrangement hereinafter described, an embodiment whereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and is embraced within the scope of the appended claims.
In the said drawingr-Figure 1 is an elevation, partly in section, ofrmy improved pistol carrying an unfolded umbrella; Fig. 2 is a sectional viewV of the barrel showing the umbrella telescoped; Fig. 3 is a plan view of aspider adapted to unfold the umbrella ejected byv firing the pistol, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing for a detail description of, my invention represents the stock, 6-the barrel, 7-the trigger, S-the trigger guard, 9-the hammer and 10-the anvil.
The'forward end of the barrel is provided with an annular shoulder 11, and the rearward end is provided with an annular shoulder 12, the barrel being also slotted longitudinally at 13. l
14 represents a cup-shaped head mounted to slide along the bore of the barrel, said head being provided with a handle shown to be projected through the slottof the barrel.
15 represents a rod carried by the head 14, which rod is provided with a hook 16. 17 represents ribs Which are shown to be pivotally connected with the rod 15 at its forward end, and 18 represents the covering. 19 represents a collar slidably mounted on the rod l5, which sellar is provided with a ysp@facet-ion afnemers raient.

circularflange adapted tobutt-up against the shoulder 11. 20'represents braces pivotally connecting the ribs 17.with the collar 19. The collar 19 carries a spider provided with flexible legs 21 provided with Ways adapted toy bear againstv and to guide the braces 20 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. v 22 represents a helical spring wound upon the rod and connecting the head 14 with the shoulder 11.
Inside the stock 5` is pivoted a lever provided 'with an arm 23 engaged with the trigger 7 and with an arm 24 provided with a hook adapted hammerf). `26 represents a fiat spring adaptto engage the arm 25 of the ed to actuate the arm 24 to engage lthe arm 25. 27 represents a pin carried by the arm .25, and 28 represents a flat spring engaging the pin-27; 29 represents a catch pivotally ,connected with the arm 24 and adapted to slide between the sho of a rivet 80. -Y Y Y Fromthe above description the operation of the gun will be readily understoody torbe as yfollows :-i-Referring to* Fig. -1, when ythe pulled from its full line position to its dotted position, the hook 16 is forced over the catch 29, as shown. The rod 15, first carries the barrel strike the lder 12 and they head the umbrella downwardly over until the pivoted ends of the ribs collar 19 which is thereby forced down-v wardlyof the rod. 4The downward movement of the collar, forces the vbraces 20 through v'the annular shoulder `.11, whereby they are forced to swing in to vertical positions thereby forcing the ribs 17 to swing into vertical positions, and the umbrella is inverted, folded and telescoped as shown in Fig. 2, with the spring 22, and the legs of the spider 21 under tension. trigger 7 is moved from its full line position into its dotted position, the arm 23 is forced upwardly, causing the arm 24 to pull the catch 29` downwardly, releasing the hook 16. The spring 22 is now free to contract and to pull the headV 14 intol its full line position. The umbrella is thus forced Youtwardly of the barrel, and the spider legs being under tension force the braces to swing outwardly, and unfold the umbrella.
When the trigger is pulled with the hammer in its full line position, the arm 24 is When the 1 sov the ribs are lforced to I "tion, the pistol maybe brella ejected at the same-'timeA v VHaving thus described my invention, ivhat 1 telescope it inside the barrel', means to eject f the umbrella outwardly of the barrel, means Copies of this patent may be obtained for the hammer arm 25, and into its forced to release the spring 28 forces the hammer dotted position.
When the trigger is released, the spring l 26 forces the arm 24 upwardly and the arm its full line posi- Vits fullline position, causing its arm 25 to swing frontwardly and to become engaged With the hook of the arm 24, the pin Y27 forcing the spring 2S into` its full line position. Y
From the above it ivill be understood that, with the hammer in its dotted position, the umbrella may be either telesc'op'ed orI ejected without firing the pistol; with the umbrella in its open position, 'the pistol may bc loaded and fired Without the umbrella being disturbed; and when the umbrella is .telescopedand the hammer in its full.v line posifired and the uml claim asnew and desire Ato protect-'by Letters Patent; 1s-' lfn combination with a gun provided 'with a longitudinally slotted'barrel, a rod 'slidingly mounted in the barrel and provided with ahandle projecting through the slot, "said rod provided with a"hool at its rear vend-and ribs extended from.v its'front end, a collar slidably mounted on the rod, braces pivotally connecting the ribs With the collar, a spider provided with yieldable legs presscatch adaptedy to five ,centsV each, by addressing` the 'Washingtoxn 11G. v
adapted to force the umbrella outwardly of the barrel, and means adapted to unfold the umbrella. M
3. In' combination with the barrel of a gun provided with a trigger, an umbrella adapted to be telescoped inside the barrel, means adapted to force the umbrella outwardly of the barrel, means adapted to unfold the umbrella, a catch adapted to strain the ejecting means, said catch being adapted to be actuated by the trigger to rclease theejecting means.
in combination with the barrel of a gun provided With a trigger, an umbrella providedfWith means for inverting it and to to unfold the ejected umbrella, means to restrain the ejecting means, said restraining means being adapted to be actuated by the trigger to release the ejecting means.
ln testimony whereof l have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses. l
