-METALLIC COMPOUND.
No Drawing. Original application filed September 22, filed J'une 7, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT B. Coiro, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Mount. Vernon, in the county of of Testchester and State of, New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Metallic Compounds, of which the follow- 4 ing is a specification. I
My invention relates to compounds in which the basic elements are lead and copper alloy and tin held in suspension with sulfid of antimony, and is a division of my application for patent ..Serial Number 862,960, filed September 22, 1914.
The object of my invention is'to produce a compound of the character described that may be readily coinmingled, economically produced, and which will result in a metallic compound that's susceptible of varied and extensive utility. Another object thereofis to produce an alloy of lead and copper commingled with sulfid of antimony and tin resulting in a compound that may be successfully employed as a substitute for Babbittmetal with advantageous results. And a still further object of my invention is to produce a metallic compound of the character described in which the-fluidity of the mixture is greatly increased to render same capable of being cast into small articles.
To these ends, my invention includes the combination and'ar-rangement of component ingredients to be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the preparation of my compound, I employ variedpercentages of lead, copper, sulfid of antimony and tin, the various prothe hardness of the resultant compound desired. I pref-- erably employ Needles antimony (sulfid) because it is readily obtainable in that form, but it will be understood that any com- Specification of Letters Patent.

pound ofantimony and sulfur that is suitable for the purposes of my invention may be used.
The exact proportions of lead and copper used are determined by the specific results desired, and-may be varied within a wide range. leadmaybe employed with one part of copper, while in other instances. nine parts of copper and one part of lead is preferred. The proportion of antimony sulfid em-.
the degree of hardof'copper and fifty pounds'of lead from five pounds to twenty-five pounds of sulfid of antimony may be used.
The quantity of tin to be employed is likewise regulated by the results that are desired to be attained. Thus, from one to nine parts of my compound may be of tin, by the addition of which the resultant compound is rendered susceptible for successful employment as a satisfactory substitute for Babbitt-metal and like materials.
The elements thus described 4 are thoroughly fused and commingled, and when it is desired to increase the fluidity of the fused compound to facilitate its casting into small articles, a small quantity of sod um may be incorporated therewith as a flux in the preparation thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
A metallic, compound comprising lead, copper and tin with sulfid of antimony, sub stantially as described.
