Description

UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
JOHN DAVOREN, DENVER, COLORADO, ASSIGNOR'OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM '1.
DAVOREN, or DENVER, coLonIAno.
COMPOSITION OF MATTER.
No Drawing.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented. Apr. 30, 1912. I Application filed May 26, 1911. Serial No. 629,732.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. DAVOREN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Composition of Matter, of which the following is a specification. Y
My inventlon relates to a new composition of' matter to be used principally in the manufacture of machine parts and its object is to provide a metallic substance in which softness is combined with tenacity.
My composition consists in its preferred form of the following ingredients combined in the proportions stated viz 4 Lead 50 pounds. Copper 50 pounds, Arsenic pound. Phosphorus 1 ounce.
poses, it is particularly adapted to be used 1n the manufacture of machine parts which are in constant frictional contact with each other or with parts made of different material, as for example the linings of journal bearings. v
I .wish it understood that while a compound of the above enumerated ingredients 1n the proportions stated has produced the most satisfactory results, brass, bronze or any other alloy may be substituted for the copper, and to adapt the composition to'different purposes the proportions of the constituent elements may be varied.
The phosphorus which is added to the mixture to render the metals more fusible,
is essential in the production of the allo but inasmuch as the arsenic is used on y when it is desired to produce an alloy of ordinary circumstances.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is-:'
1. The herein described composition of matter consisting of copper, lead and phosphorus.
2. The herein described composition of matter consisting of copper fifty pounds,
lead fifty ounds and phosphorus one ounce.
3. The i) matter consisting of copper and lead in equal proportions and phosphorus.
In testlmony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN J.-DAVOREN.
Witnesses I G. J. ROILANDET, L. Rnoenns.
