PAUL H. SCHENDLER, 0F ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
PRESSURE-RELEASING MECHANISM.
.. Specification of Letters Patent. Patntga Feb. 27, 1917.
Application filed November 16, 1916. Serial No. 131,734.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL H. SCHENDLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pressure-Releasing Mechanisms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to means for releasing the rolls of wringers in emergency cases, and has for its object to provide a simple, safe and convenient apparatus, whereby such release may be effected instantly, and without danger to the wringer or its material parts.
The features of my invention will appear, hereinafter, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figurel, is a side view in elevation, of a portion of a clothes wringer having my invention .embodied therein.
Fig. 2, is an endwise view of the same.
Fig. 3, is a top Or plan View thereof. 1
In these drawings A and A indicate the bifurcated end posts of the wringer frame;
, B and B indicate the upper and lower wringer rolls; C indicates the pressure springs in the end frames A and A; D and d-d indicate the guide member'connecting .the topof the roller springs C C, all of .which parts are of usual and ordinary construction.
Between the upper ends of the bifurcated end posts A and A, I place a cross bar E, having therein screws EE, which engage the arms d (l, of the spring guide D, for the purpose of adjusting the pressure of the spring C upon the upper roll B.
Secured'against the end surface of the bifurcated side post A, is a plate F, which 'holds the upper ends of the bifurcated end post A from spreading apart. Secured in the plate F, by means of a pivot f, is a hook F, which extends over the upper sur--' face of the end of the bar E adjacent there- -to, and prevents that end of the bar E from being forced upwardly by springs 0 The hook F, is provided with ears f,
the action of the which overlap the plate F; and said hook is also provided with a spring 7, for the purpose of maintaining said hook in an upward position, as shown by. full lines in the drawings. The cars f, which overlap the plate F, as shown in Fig. 2, prevent the hook F from being moved forwardly between the upper ends of the bifurcated' end posts A, when the transverse .bar E, is in the position shown by broken lines in Fig. 1, so that when the said bar E is forced downwardly in the position thereof shown by full lines in Fig. 1, the hook F, will not'be so far thereunder-that it will prevent the bar E, from being forced back into its normal position, but that said hook F will be thrown outwardly, as shown by broken lines in Fig. 1, by the bar E being forced downward into its normal position, when the spring 7 will force the hook F. to again overlap the upper side of the bar E adjacent to said hook. a
The opposite end of the bar E is secured in the position thereof indicated by full lines in Fig. 1', between the upper ends of the bifurcated end post A, by means of a G, which, like the plate F, on the biplate furcated end post A, at the, opposite end of the wringer, spans the upper end of the bifurcated end post A, thereby preventing the arms thereof fromspreading. This plate G, is provided with ears G in which is placed a. transverse pivot H, which engages the end of the transverse bar E, adj acent thereto, and maintains the same in its normal position, as shown in the drawings.
Secured upon the bar E, is a slidable plate J, which is provided with a slot J, through which the'adjusting screw E passes; the plate J, being secured upon the 'bar E by means of a screw j passing through a slot j. 'For operating the slide'J, I provide a lever K, which is supported upon the bar E by means of a bifurcated bracket K secured upon the bar 13 by means of a screw or bolt K The lever K, is provided with a notch, 71:, with which an upturned end j on the sliding plate J intermeshes. I also provide a spring L between the lever K and the bar E forreturning the lever K to its normal K; a'doWnward stroke being. the easiest and most natural movement of a person Whose fingers might be accidentally caught between the rolls B B. This movement of the lever K, as shown by broken lines in Fig. l, forces the slide J to push the hook I into the position thereof shown by broken lines in Fig. 1, which releases the bar E and permits the springs C C to force the bar E upwardly as shown by broken lines in Fig. 1, thus releasing all pressure upon the roller B.
Having thus shown and described my in vention so as to enable others to construct and utilize the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination in a device of the class described, of a transverse bar adapted to be placed between the upper bifurcated ends of the end posts of aclothes wringer, pressure regulating screws in said bar, a plate secured upon the upper end of one of the end posts of the Wringer, a spring pressed hook pivoted in said plate adapted to engage the upper side of the end. of said bar adjacent to said hook, ears on said hook overlapping and engaging said plate, a sliding plate secured on said transverse bar, one end of which engages said hook, and a vertically movable spring pressed lever mounted on said transverse bar engaging said slidable plate, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination in a device of the class described, of a transverse bar adapted to be placed between the upper bifurcated ends of the end'posts of a clothes wringer, a plate secured on one of said wringer end posts havingears thereon, a pivot pin passing through said ears and one end of said transverse bar, a spring pressed hook secured on the other of said wringer end posts adapted to engage the upper side of the opposite end of said transverse bar, a lever and slide mechanism adapted to disengage said hook from said bar, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
