Joi'zrzH C017 a l'l'onneq UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H: COX, OF HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSAS.
COMBINATION SAFETY-RAZOR AND HAIR-CLIPPER.
Application filed October 9, 1916. Serial No. 124,612.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. Cox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hot Springs, in the county of Garland and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Safety-Razors and Hair-Clippers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined safety razors and hair clippers, and consists of a simple and eflicient device of this nature having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-,-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device.
Fig. 2 is an end view, and
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, 'A designates the body portion of the device which is similar to the frame of a comb and which is provided with an elongated'slot B upon the rear edge. C designates a safety razor blade pivotally mounted on a pin D carried in registering apertures in the walls of the slot, and the free end of said safety razor blade extends a slight distance beyond the end of the frame in which it is mounted'sufiiciently to form a handle whereby the blade may be swung upon its pivot. The blade is provided with an aperture E, the inner marginal edge of which is flush with the end of the frame.
A hook designated by letter F is pivotally mounted upon a pin F upon the'end of the frame and is adapted to swing into. said aperture E to hold the blade in place, while the opposite end of the hook has a cam edge, designated by letter L.
A hair cutting blade, designated by letter N, is mounted in a series of registering slots R formed in the several teeth T of the frame, and one end of the blade N, when the latter is adjusted in place, projects beyond the end of the'frame and is adapted to be engaged by the cam edge of the hook pivoted to the frame and serves to hold the blade in place.
It will be noted that when the hair cutting blade is adjusted in place, its cutting edge will. be positioned a slight distance back from the marginal edges of the teeth and that the cutting edge of the safety razor blade will be positioned .a slight distance from and parallel to the longitudinal edge of the frame.
What Iclaim to be new is A device for holding blades in holders comprising, in combinationwith a holder having recesses with blades mounted therein, means upon the holder for engaging the outer edge of one blade, the other blade being provided with an aperture in a projecting portion in the free end thereof, a cam lever pivotally mounted upon the end of the holder and having a hook at one end adapted to engage said aperture, a cam portion of the lever being adapted to bear frictionally against the edge of the other blade.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. COX.
