Patented Feb. 27,1917.
Application filed September15, '1916. Serial No. 120,288
To all whom z' t may concern:
Beit known that I, CARL W. Rnnnrosnr,
a subject of. Finland, Russia, residing at 905 Patton avenue, Portland, in the county of Multnomah, State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improve of which the follow.- ing is a descriptiom reference being had to the accompanying drawings, hereof.-
. The object of the. inventionis to provide a simple and comparatively inexpensive and readily attachable auxiliary [toilet seat adapted for childrens fuse and having means for engagement with a b'o'wl of any ,of the ordinary commercial constructions whereby accidental displacementis prevented.
Further' -objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description of a preferred embodiment, it beclearly the means whereby the platform issecured against displacement.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view, ofthe attachment when folded for storage or transportation. c
Fig. 4 is a detail view inperspective of a portion of the platform to illustrate the means for engagement with a cover hinge rod at the rear of the platform.
The essential features of the illustrated embodiment of the invention consist of a platform 10 provided with a suitable guard 11 forming a back and arms which may be p able elements housed within the guard on:
connected at the frontby a strap or other flexible means 12, a rear platform anchoring means consisting of hooked members 13 adapted for engagement under and in rear of the ordinary cover hinge rod 14, the engagement of said members with the hinge rod being efi'ected'by raising the forward end of the pl atform'and with the rear rocker edge 15 thereof resting on the flange of the bowl. sliding same rearwardly to the proper position and then depressing the forward forminga part contact 25 may the foot rest to bear against the surface of .the swinging detent edge of the platform, and. a front platform anchoring means consis'ting of. a detent 16 adapted for engagement under the bowl rim 17 at the front, a e'd from the detent and provided with bearfoot rest 18 being suspend ing fingers 19 'to engage the under surface of the platform for the purpose of locking fthedetent in placeand steadying the entire structure. 7
In the construction illustrated, the detent comprlses a part of a swinging frame of which the arms 20 are 'pivotally mounted, as
at 21,upon the'platform near the sides thereof and thesuspending r0d22 of the foot rest are fulcrumed upon said frame at either side of the bowl engagingportion of the detent and are extended to form the bearing fingers 19 which preferably come in contact with a wear plate 23 secured to the platform and the detent is preferably provided with a tubular cushioning means 24 to avoid mar ring the rim of the bowl. Also a cushioned be provided'at the rear of the bowl.
It will be understood that in-placingthe' after the engagement of, the
with the hinge rod 14:,
attachment rear holding means ward and downward fi'omi'the folded positionindicated in Fig. 3' in order to pass under the bowl rim, ward swinging movement of the foot rest, bringing the bearing fingers 19 into contact with the under surface of the platform and the'rear of said foot rest'into contact with thebowl, will lock-the. parts to prevent accidental displacement or vibration, whereas it is only necessary to draw the foot rest forward sufliciently to disengage the bearing fingersfrom the under surface of the plat-' form to enable the operator to fold the foot rest within the detent frame and dispose, the arts as indicated in Fig. 3- with the movhaving a platform provided with rear means for engaging under and in rear of an element mounted on the bow1,.a movable bowl rim engaging element should be moved forand thereupon the rear- 9 to lock the front end for engaging of the platform against elevation, and a foot rest for holding the rim-engaging element in operative position.
2. An auxiliary bowl engagingtoilet seat, having a platform provided at its rear with an upturned hooked element for engaging a bowl cover hinge, a movable bowl rimengaging element to lock the front end of the platform against elevation, and a foot rest for holding the rim-engaging element in operative position.'
3. An auxiliary bowl engaging toilet seat, having a platform provided with rear means for engaging under and in rear of an element mounted on the bowl, a movable bowl run-engaging element to lock the front end of the platform against elevation and consisting of a swinging frame having a detent for disposition under a'bowl rim, and a foot rest suspended from said frame.
, 4. An auxiliary bowl engaging. toilet seat, having a platform provided with rear means under and in rear of an ele ment mounted on the bowl, a movable bowl rim-engaging element to lock the front end of the platform against elevation, and consisting of a swinging detent for engagement 'undera bowl rim, and a foot rest suspended from said detent.
' under a bowl rim,'.and a foot 5. An auxiliary bowl engaging toilet seat, having a platform. provided with rear means for engaging under and in rear of an element mounted on the bowl, a movable bowl rim-engaging element to lock the front end'of the platform against. elevation, and consisting of a swinging detent for engagement under a bowl rim, and afoot rest suspended from said detent, and having bearing fingers for engagement with the under surface of the platform. v
6. An auxiliary bowl'engaging toilet seat, having a platform provided with rear means for engaging under and in rear of an element mounted on the bowl, a movable bowl rim-engaging element to lock the front end of the platform against elevation, and con sisting of a swinging detent for engagement rest suspended from said de'tent, and provided with side suspension rods terminally extended to form rearwardly projected bearing fingers.
