GAS-BURNER nnnnncroa.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 20, 1917.
Application filed June 16, 1916. Serial No. 104,093.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DURWARD M. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clarendon, county of Alexandria, State of Virginia, (post-oflice, Clarendon, Virginia,) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burner Deflectors, of
- which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to attachments for gas burners designed to economize in fuel and at the same time to intensify the heat produced by spreading the flames andwith this object in view, the device is hereinafter described in detail and the invention claimed.
In order that the invention may be more clearly comprehended attention is directed to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the device, Fig. 2 is a side view thereof showing long and short slots. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the device in position over the burner of a gas stove.
As the drawing shows the device consists of a dome shaped cap (A) in the top of which at the center thereof is a bridge B which trisects the top center. The top and sides of the cap are provided with small counter-sunk holes (C). The diameter of the cap varies in size so as to fit the different size burners (F). Four short slots '(D) at base of cap are made to fit principal bearings in applying to stove burners. Four long slots (E) are made to take care of variations in remaining bearings. The device can easily beapplied to any ordinary gas stove that can be covered by'a ca without alteration in the structure of the burner.
When in use with the gas burning an indraft of air is induced through the counter-sunk holes which mixes the gas with the air intensifying the heat to a considerable degree with less consumption of gas copies of this patent may be ghtained for five cents each, by addressing the producing an absolute blue flame and preventing the soot from forming on the bottom of the utensil. The bridge (B) splits the flame and spreads it thereby causing same to strike the surface to be heated with a more equal force at all points. The ob ject of the bridge is to relieve the intensity of the heat at the center-bottom of the utensil placed over the flame. This eliminates the danger of burning at the central point as the flame is thereby diffused evenly over the entire surface to be heated.
The funnel-shaped counter-sunk holes (C) dispense the mixture of air and gasv with considerable force and greatly enlarge the flame as it passes through the said holes which strikes uniformly the surface to be heated.
I claim:
1. A deflector for gas burners comprising a dome-shaped cap open at the base andhaving slots at its edge to seat on the burner, and a bridge within the top of the cap, to diffuse the flame, said bridge having a central deflecting portion and arms extending to the cap, the sides of the cap flaring toward the base and perforated.
2. A deflector for gas burners comprising a dome-shaped cap open at the base and having long and short slots at its edge to seat on the burner and allow for variations DURWARD M. SMITH.
