When the tooth or spur 14 has turned a predetermined distance it will have withdrawn from engagement with the shoulder 17 thereby permittingthe shoo-fiy shaft and attached parts to return to, normal position under the influence ofthe spring 11. A spring-finger 18 is carried by the arm 15 and has'its free end bearing inward against the outer side of the trip-finger 16 to yieldingly hold its free end in inward bearing engagement with the collar 13 or its tooth 14. o
It is evident that an initial outward rocking movement of the gripper-shaft 5 from sheet gripping position will'efi'ect a simultaneous raising of both the gripper and shoo-fly fingers to cause a releasing of the sheet edge by one and an outward moving of the released sheet edge from the cylinder periphery by the other, and that when the V per-fingers to release the engaged sheet and that simultaneously with the initial releasing movement of the gripper-fingers the shoo-fiy means will be operated to raise the forward edge of the sheet, which is designate'dv a in Fig. 3, to insure the passage of such sheet over the delivery fingers 3.
When the edge of the sheet has been raised a predetermined distance by the shoo-fly fingers, the trip-finger 16 is automatically released from engagement with the tooth or spur 14 on the gripper-shaft 5, thus permitting the shoo-fiy parts to return to their normal position. The turning of the gripper-shaft 5 onits axis of rotation is continued for a predetermined distance after the shoo-fly means has been released from engagement therewith, as is well understood in the art. 7
I It is apparent that I have provided a shoo-fly operating mechanism which is sim ple and inexpensive in its construction, and is connected to and operated directly by the gripper-means, so that the movements of the shoo-fiy means are positive and properly timed with the sheet releasing movements of the" gripper means.
I wish it understood that'my invention is not limited to any specific construction, arrangement or form of the parts, as it is capable of numerous modifications without departing from the spirit of the claims.
7 Having thusdescribedmy invention, what I claim-as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,

The combination withthe rocker-shaft of a sheet gripping mechanism, of shoo-fiy means having a rocker-shaft and. shoo-fiy fingers projecting therefrom, and means having connection with and operated. by initial sheet releasing rocker movements of said first rocker-shaft to impart predetermined rocking movements to said shoo-fly rockershaft. 7 v v 8. The combination with sheet-gripper means of a printing press, said means having a rocker part, of 'shoo-fly means having a shoo-fly finger rocker-shaft, an arm projecting from said rocker-shaft, and a tripfinger connecting said arm and rocker part and operable to impart predetermined rocking movements to said rocker-shaft when said rocker part is rocked. I
4. In a printingpress, an impression'cylinder, a pair of rocker-shafts carried by said cylinder, one having sheet gripping fingers and the other shoe-fly fingers projecting therefrom, and means connecting said shafts and operable to impart predetermined rocking movements to one when the other has predetermined rocking movements.
5. In combination, a I cylinder, a sheetgripper mechanism carried thereby and having a rocker-shaft, shoo-fly means carried by the cylinder and having a rocker-shaft, and 7 means connecting the rocker-shafts of said mechanism and shoo-fly means and automatically operable to communicate predetermined rocking movements to the Shoo-fly means when the gripper mechanism shaft is rocked and to releasethe connection between said rocker-shafts when the rocker-shaft of the shoo-fly'means hasbeen rocked a predetermined extent. means operable to normally maintain the shoe-fly means in one position of its movement with respect to the cylinder, and means connecting the rocker-shafts of said gripper mechanism and shoo-fly means and operable to move the shoo-fly means a predetermined distance from normal position when the rocker-shaft of said mechanism has sheet releasing movements imparted thereto and then to release said, shoo-fly means to permit it to return to normal position.
7. The combination with the cylinder of a printing press, and sheet-gripper means carried thereby and having a rocker-shaft,-
