The ob ect of the nvention is to provide an improved deviceffor the projection of rings, or the like, from a'given position upon areljatively flat surface, upwardly into theair, whence it isdesigned todrOp upon j fof pins, or to one side of the latter. which toit its initial impulse.
And st ll, another object is to provide a device of this character, with suitable and eflic'ie'n't means whereby the rings may be returned to the operator, or adjacent to the starting point, to then be made again available by releasing a trap or door by suitable coin-operated mechanism.
Further objects and detailsof the con struction of the preferred embodiment of the invention are fully brought out in the following description, when read in conjunc tlo'n with the acompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved game, and Fig. 2 is a vertical, longitudinal section of the same.
Referring to the drawings, the device comprises a platform 1, raised upon a suitable support 2, and inclosed at its sides and rear by an upright screen 3, while from the forward edge of said platform slopes an inclined surface 4, adjacent to the forward portion of which is pivotally mounted a trap, or door 5, opened by pressure of the foot upon a tread 6, upon releasing the said door by a suitable coin-operated mechanism 7, to which leads .a slot or track 8, into the uppermost end of which a coin may be in serted.

tends a transversely positioned platform 12, curving gradually upwardly at its rearward portion for apurpo'se hereinafter described. Resting slidably upon saidplatform 12 is a projecting member comprising a metallic plate 13, adapted to support agring 1 L havin-g'securedithereto any: suitable weight 15,
the plate 13-being provided with a raised po1-t1on16 having a semicn'cular recess against the walls of, which sa drlng bears.
Projecting downwardly from said plate 13 and p assing through a slot 18 in the platform 12 1s a pin .19, carrying a plunger 20,
which in turn is pulled forwardly j by the handle 21, against the pressure of the expansion spring 22. Secured upon the upper surface o-f the platform 12 are-alsodiverging raised members 23, between which the ring lfh is projected towardzthe rear of the device, after pulling the handle21 and plate '1 13, "operated thereby outwardly, and releasing' the' same, which latteroperat on permits the spring to force said plate. suddenly rearwardly until brought suddenly to a stop by the spring or cushion'1-9. i'lhewhole of the projecting mechanism is covered by a plate 25, which keeps the former freefrom dust and dirt, as well as preventing 1nterference therewith.
The object of the device as before stated is to shoot the ring from the platform 12, up into the air and thence to permit the said ring to fall in such manner upon the platform 1 as to encircle one of the upright spikes 26, or the like, while in any event the said ring upon falling rests upon a screen or net 27, instead of directly upon the said latter platform. When all of a given number of the said rings have been used, and it is desired to regain possession of them, a coin is inserted in the slot 8 and the door 5 opened by pressure of the foot upon the pedal 6. As the door sw1ngs outwardly, it pulls a string 28, which passes to the rear, around a pulley 29, and by means of any suitable lever 30, cooperating with the screen 27, it raises the latter, tilting the same upwardly, thereby freeing the rings from the spikes or pins 26 and permlttmg the former to slide on to the surface a to where they can be reached by the operator. The door is then closetl, thus returning the screen 27 to its normal slightly incllned position, and the apparatus is in position to operate as before.
it is desired to protect, with any changes or It will be noted that, if the Weight carried by the. ring lies to the rear and center,
described, and the details characteristic thereto, the principle in its broadest form alterations in the shape or detailed construction of the elementary parts of the device, wherefore the present form of the invention and the claims hereto appended should not be restricted to the exact form shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A device, comprising a ring projecting mechanism, a screen, and a coin-released mechanism adapted to permit the manual elevation of said screen to return by gravity a ring projected thereupon by said mechanism.
2. A device, comprising a manuallyre leased springoperated ring projecting mechanism, a series of upright pins, a pivoted screen surrounding said pins, and a manually operated coinreleased mechanism adapted to permit the elevation of said screen to release a ring projected by said first mechanism upon said pins and to permit said ring to move therefrom by gravity.
3. A device, comprising a platform, a series of pins or spikes, a screen surrounding said pins and pivotally mounted to tilt upwardly to release a ring from said pins and permit said ring to move therefrom by gravity, and manually operated means to tilt said screen.
4. A device, comprising a receptacle for a. ring, resilient means to actuate the same, means to manually set the former into operation, the Whole comprising a projecting device adapted to shoot a ring, an upwardly curved platform to alter the course of said ring, a pivotally mounted screen, through which normally project pins, and adapted to be tilted to free a ring from said pins, and coin-released manually-operated means to tilt said screen to return said ring to an operator.
In witness whereof, I have hereto set my hand this 11th day of May, A. D. 1916.
