ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES iPatented May 2, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
VENDING-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent. N0. 789,039, dated May 2, 1905.
Application filed June 20, 1904. Serial No. 213,299.
To all, whom it may canoe "72,;
Be it known that I, FRED LYNEs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of J ohnstown, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Vending-Machine, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to improvements in ejecting devices for coin-controlled vending-machines such, for instance, as shown in my application filed under date of January 22, 1903, Serial No. 140,089, an object being to provide a simple device whereby a cigar or other vended article when raised to discharging position will be thrown forward upon the top of the machine-casing.
I will describe a vending-machine embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a sectional elevation of a portion of a vending-machine with an ejecting device embodying my improvement shown in lowered position, and Fig. 2 is a similar section showing the ejector as elevated.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the casing of a vending-machine having a glass top 2, provided with a slot 3, through which a cigar or the like is to be discharged. Attached to the top 2 and extended over the opening 3 is a hood 4, consisting of a metal plate or the like transversely curved, as clearly indicated in the drawings. Secured to the top at the front edge of the opening 3 and projected slightly over the opening is a guard-plate 5, designed to prevent the insertion of a wire or the like to remove a cigar. Arranged in the casing is a hopper 6, in which cigars or other merchandise in like form to be sold are placed, and movable through the hopper to the opening 3 is an ejector, comprising a plunger 5, which is operated in the manner shown in my application above referred tothat is, when released by the insertion of a coin the weight 6 causes an upward movement of the plunger, carrying the cigar or other article to the opening 3.
Arranged to swing on the upper end of the plunger is a transversely-concaved plate 7, designed to throw or discharge a cigar or other article forward on the top 2. An actuating-rod has pivotal connection with the discharging device and extends downward through the plunger to a connection with a trip-lever 9, pivoted to the plunger. When in uppermost position, the lever 9 is designed to engage against a tappet 10, which, as here shown, is adjustable in a lug 11, attached to a downward extension of the chute, and the tappet is held as adjusted by means of a setscrew 12 or by any other suitable means.
In the operation when the ejector is elevated a cigar will be carried upward in the plate 7. When the ejector-plunger reaches its uppermost position, the lever 9 by coming in contact with the tappet 10 will be rocked on its pivot, moving the rod 8 upward, and consequently swinging the plate 7 to the position indicated in Fig. 2, thus forcing a cigar or other article outward.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A vending-machine comprising a casing having an opening in its top, a hood over said opening, a plunger for carrying a vended ar ticle to said opening, a discharge-plate mounted to swing on the plunger, and means for swinging the plate when in uppermost position.
2. A vending-machine comprising a casing having an opening in its top, a vertically-movable plunger, and a discharge-plate mounted to swing on said plunger.
3. A vending-machine comprising a casing, a hopper therein, the top wall of said casing being provided with an opening over the hopper, a plunger movable through said hopper to said opening, a discharge-plate mounted to swing on the upper end of the plunger, a rod extended downward from said plate, a triplever pivoted to the plunger and with which said rod connects, and a fixed tappet with which said trip-lever is designed to engage.
L. A vending-machine comprising acasing having an opening in its top, a hopper arranged in the casing, a plunger movable through said casing, to carry a vended article plunger and with which said rod connects,
and an adjustable tappet for engaging with the lever.
5. A vending-machine comprising acasing having a glass top provided with an opening, a transversely-curved hood extended over said openlng, a hopper 1n the casing, a plunger movable vertically through said. hopper to, a
carry a vended article to the opening, a trans- 15' versely-curved plate mounted toswing on the upper end of the plunger, a; rod extended downward from the plate, a lever carried by the plunger and to which said rod is pivoted,
and a tappet-rod adjustable on the hopper. 2
In testimonywhereof- Ihave signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
FRED LYN ES.
