Be it known that LGARRY J. DORMANDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy? Rensselaer county, New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding-Machines, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates tomachines for folding and pressing blanks for collars, ends, and like articles. llts object-is to infoldthe edges of such blanks smoothlyand correctly, to press the infolded edges after the folding operation so that theywill perfectly maintain their folds, and to place the folded and pressed blanks in superposed posi-. tion ready for removal from the machine. Further objects of the invention, as well as the means for efi'ecting such objects, will appear in this specification and be pointed out in the claims.

11 designates the main frame or standard of the machine, provided at its right end with bearings 12 for shaft 13, on which is lreyed coupling member 14, adapted to clutch with loose pulley 15, which maybe continuously driven by suitable means, as a belt, not shown, see Fig. 3. A pedal 16 is pivoted at 17 in door brackets .18 and carries 7 to 14 illustrate details of the invention, as
a rigid arm 19 pivotally connected by bar' 20 to arm,21, the upper end of which is keyed on a short rock shaft22, to which is secured forked arm 23 connected by pins 24 to the collar portion of clutch member 14. A springs 25 acts through parts 19 to 24 to normally hold clutch members 14, 15 in operative relation. A shaft 26 carries disks 27, Figs. 2 and5, on one (or both) of which is a roller pin 28 bearing against lever 29, which is connected 'by link 30 and pull spring 31 to arm 21, whereby each rotation of shaft 26 acts to uncouple clutch members 14, 15 and stop'the machine. On I fore and aft shaft 13 is a worm gear 32 driving cogwheel 33 on shaft 34, on which is fast cam wheel 35, the face of which is formed with a cam slot 36, in which rides a pin 37 pro jecting laterally from arm 38, the other endof which is fast to a hollow rockshaft 39, to which shaft is also clamped a plurality of arms 40, which pass upward through suit able apertures in bedplate 11 of the machine, and have pin and slot connection with front folder bar 41,"to which is detachably.
secured front folder blade 42., A second cam wheel 43 is also fast on shaft 34 and acts through arm 44 to rock shaft 45, on which are clamped, as'bcfore, arms 46 connected to rear folder bar 47, carrying folder blade 48, see Fig. 4. Near each end of shaft 34 is'secured a cam wheel 49 having a peripheral cam groove 50, which acts through levers 51,52,
each fast on a rock shaft 53, to moveend folder bars 54 and their attached blades 55, see Figs. 2 and 3. Meshing with gear wheel 34 is a gear wheel 56'on shaft 26, which shaft carries cam wheel 57 having face cam groove 58 in which moves pin 59 in arm body 60, the lower end 61 of which is forked for free vertical movement on shaft 26. A head portion 62 is connected to body part 60. by right and left threaded rod 63, head 62 being forked to engage lever 64 pivoted at 65 to a pair of ears 66 on frame 11. 'llo lever 64 is secured a "ll-shaped carrier 67 having a. depending portion 68 to which is adjustably bolted a supporting bar 69 for a Til templet blade 76. As shown bar 69 and blade 70 are divided into separate parts in the usual manner. lln addition, one end of bar 69 carries a part 71 pivoted at 72 and having a blade 73, which forms. one end of templet 70, and is normally held in a plane -On. shaft are two inverted saddles 81,
each having anotch 82 freely embracing shaft 80 and formed with a transverse recess 83in which engages pin 84 on the shaft.
Fivoted to and rising from each end of each part 81 is a bolt 85, which bolts pass and folder bar-s41,
through slots in bed 11 47. At the top of each bolt is a nut 86 between which and the upper surface of the a folder bar is a spring 87, Figs. 4 and "6. A steam chest 88 beneath the front portion of bed 11 is fed by pipe 89 and extends forwardly to an angularly disposed front'wall 90. 0n shaft 34 is a cam wheel 91, Fig. 7,
having cam groove 92 in which moves pin 93 on arm 94, which acts to rock shaft 95 at the ends of which are arms 96, Figs. 1 and r t d a 1 arms ha e right d left threaded adjusting rods 99, to rock shaft 100. Shaft 100 is journaled in bearings 101 which "slide in -ways 102 and carries a swiveled casting103, having a plane rear face 104, thefloweredge' of the casting being normally drawn forward by springs 105, Figs. 3 and 4. Also mounted on shaft 100 at the ends of casting 103 are ears 106 having upper and lowerrearward projections 107,
on which are pivoted pressing plates 108 of L-shaped cross-section, Figs. 4, 6 and 7, normally held by springs 109 in the angular position shown in Fig. 7. Mounted at theleft end of shaft34, Figs. 1 and 8, is a cam 'wheel 110 having in its inner facecam groove 111, in which moves pin 112 on arm 113, which "acts to rock shaft 114 carryingtwo pairs of pivoted arms 115, 116, Figs. 4
and 10, forreciprocating a longitudinal bar 117 mounted at the rear of an inclined bed 118. Bar 117 carries a plurality of blades or fingers 119 located beneath and normally slightly to the rear of the front wall 90 ofv steam chest 88. The outer face of cam wheel- 110 has a .cam groove 120, in which rides pin 121 on arm 122 which rocks shaft 123, on
. which are two forked arms 124 embracing bar 125, Figs. 3, 8 and 9, from which extends upwardly a second series of blades or fingers 126,,w-hich pass through slots in bed 118 in front of the normal position of blades 119. In the periphery of wheel 110 at its inner side is a cam depression 127 coacting with roller 128 onlever 129, which lever has pin and slot connection at 130, Figs. 1,
9, 10 and 11, with bar .131 beneath bed 118 for reciprocating the bar longitudinally of the bed. A transverse-blade-132 is fast at the end of bar 131 so as to move above bed 118. A pull spring 133 attached to bar 131 acts to hold roller 128 against the periphery of wheel 110. A blade 134, similar to 132, is secured to bar 135 at the opposite end of bed 118, which bar is moved with bar 131, but in an opposite direction, by means of two small gears 136 and pin and slot con nections 137 beneath bed 118. On bed 118 are two transverse undercut guide bars 138 which serve to detachably engage a buncher or device for receiving and removing a number of blanks after they have been operated upon by the machine. This device 139 consists of two U-shaped 'e'nd pieces 140, the bases of which have do've- 142, which when the device is in place are in a plane with the rear blades 119 above described, and the front upturned ends 143 being pierced for the free passage of rods 144, the rear ends of which are secured to a board 145, normally forced rearwardly by springs 146 on the rods 144, the end pieces 140 being secured to a longitudinal bar 147.
Premising that the particular machine illustrated is set up for infolding .blanks for collar bands or tops, the length of which is much greater than their width, and that these blanks ordinarily consist of two superposed plies, the operation of the machine is as follows: The operator places a blank on bed 11 of the machine in the space beneath templet 7 0, Fig. 4. He then starts the machine by tilting pedal 16, which acts through parts 19 to 24, Fig. 5, to engage clutch member 14 with constantly driven pulley'member 15. 'Templet is then forced down on bed 11, or rather on the blank laid thereon, by the action of cam wheel 57 Fig. 4, and dwells there while pin 59 travels around the concentric portion of cam groove 58. During this dwell of the templet, end infolder blades 55, actuated by cams 49 and connecting parts '51,to, 54, Figs. 2 and 3 act to fold the end 70; after which front and rear folder blades 42 and 48, moved by cams 35 and 43 and connecting parts, Fig. 4, infold the long edges of the blank. 1
After the folding operation is thus completed, cam 76, Fig. 6, acts through parts 78 to'87 to-for'ce the folding blades, still in their inward position, down upon the edges of the folded blank to set or preliminarily press the folds over the periphery of the templet, the pressure of the blades being regulated by nuts 86 acting through springs 87. This pressure being withdrawn by the passing of pin 78 into the outer concentric portion of groove 77, Fig. 6, the further rotation of'shaft 34 acts to retract all four infolder blades and afterward to raise templet 70 to its highest position, Fig. 3, at which time pin 28 bears against lever 29, see also Fig. 5, withdraws clutch member 14 from engagement with member 15 and stops the machine. Broadly speaking, these operations of infolding the edges of the blank and of setting the folds by a downward movement of the infolders are well. known in the art.
But in practice, the folded edges of the blank are found to be inadequately pressed by this fold-setting operation, so that they will not maintain a close, smooth fold during the later handling. This. is particularly true where the machine is run at speed, whereby the time of the dwell of the infolders is very short. 1
I have therefore provided means, the operation of which I will now describe, for thoroughly pressing the folded blanks.

During this latter part of the first cycle of the machine, including the time when the rotation, of shaft'34, by which all parts ofthe machine are driven, is arrested, pressing plates or shutters 108 have been held in parallel 'relationwith and'closely ainst pressing bed 90, F igs.- 3 and "t. 1 hen the machine starts, pin 93 passes out of the outerconcentric position of groove 92 to the position shown in Fig. 7, 6., its position nearest totheaxis of cam 91, whereby plates 108 are moved to their greatest distance from bed 96, leaving a clear space between the plates and the bed even at the lower edge of the lower plate. A further partial rotation of cam 91' brings pin 93 into the inner circumferential portion 92 of groove 92, vwhichrnoves plates 108,- still in angular relation with each other, slightly inward so that the lower edge of the lower plate substantially touches bed 99, Fig. 6. The operator then drops the folded blank into the space or pocket thus formed between bed 90 and plates 198. its ,pin'93 passes through the straightportion 92 of groove 92, plates 108 are'forced toward bed 90, their outer edges first approaching and contactingswith the bed, 13, plate 10 1 finally acting to bring them into the same plane and to force them against bed 90, or more properly, against the folded blank which has been dropped into the pocket, as just described, Figs. 3 and. 1. Thus the folded edges of blank B, Fig. 13, if at any part of their length they are slightly upstanding as shown, will be forced inward to their proper position before the pressure is applied.
if these hinged plates were omitted, and a fiat plate, as 1041, were forced directly against bed 90, there would be a tendency to crush these upturned edges, instead of ironing them down smoothlyupon the surface of the blank. After the machine starts in its next cycle, 1'. 6., after a second blank has been folded as already described, the plates again assume the position shown in Fig. 7, and the lower plate 168 is removed a second time from bed 90 so that the folded and perfectly pressed blank is free to drop from the pocket into the space between the longitudinal series of fingers 119 and 126,

As the rear upturned fingers 1t2 of buncher 1 10, Figs :3 and 11, are in a plane with fingers 119, and as board 145 of the" buncher is held; forward against the action of springs 14:;6-by front lingers 126, the
blank is also between fingers M2 and board 145 of the buncher and is supported by its lower edge resting on transverse bars1 10 thereof. After the "blank has dropped into this space, roller 128 passes into depression '127 in wheel 110, Figs. 1 and 2, when spring 133 pulls lever 129, thereby forcing inward blades 132, 134, Figs. 9-and 11, through the action of bars 131, 135 and gear connections 136, 137.

Further rotation of wheel 110 returns fingers 126 to their upward position, shown in solid lines, Fig. 8, but behindthe blank,
which is meantime-pushed forward by fingers 119,,which then withdraw to their normal, rearward position. it will be seen that both sets of fingers 119 and 126, as well as fingers 1 12 of buncher 139 are now at the rear of the blank, which is resilientlyindependently of the particular construction of other parts. Thus, e. g., the infolding means, the means for preliminarily pressing or setting the folds, the final or actual pressing device, "the means for-handling the pressed blanks and the removable buncher or carrier, do their work, each to a greater or less extent independently of the form or action of the others. As previously stated, however, the operations of these different elements are interdependent or cooperative with respect to each other by reason of their mutual connection to a single operattion requires a definite time for removing this moisture and firmly setting the folds.

It is understood that the blanks to be folded in a machine of this character are first moistened, and that the pressing opera- A relatively considerable time is alsoconsumed in removing a folded blank from the folding means and replacing it by a second blank, even where, as in the present form of construction, the folded blank is raised is pressed directly afterits removal from the folding mechanism, and during'the next following cycle of-the machine. The blank tends to dry out .quite rapidly, this being e'speoially the case where it is given a preliminary setting after the folding operation and before its removal from the templet, so that it is essential that the pressing, or final pressing,'operation take place with the least possible loss of time. I
What I claim is:
1. In a machine for folding and pressing the folded edges of blanks of textile material, folding means including a bed, a templet and infolders adapted to infold the entire periphery of the blank; means forpressing the folded edges of the blank after it has been removed from said folding means,
said pressing means including a second bed, two pressing plates normally maintained in difi'erent planes and means for forcing said plates into parallel relation with said lastnamed bed during their approach thereto; and means for simultaneously actuating said folding and said pressing means, substantially for thepurposes set forth.
2. In a machine for folding and pressing the folded edges of blanks of textile material, folding means including a bed, a templet movable toward and from said bed and infolders; means for pressing the folded edges of-the blank after it has been removed from said templet, said pressing means including a second bed, two pressing plates normally maintained in different planes and means for forcing said plates into parallel relation with said last-named bed during their approach thereto; and means for simultaneously actuating said folding and said pressing means, substantially for the purposes set forth.
3. In a machine for. folding and pressing the folded edges of blanks of textile material the length of which is greater than their width, folding means including a bed, a templet and a series of infolders adapted to infold the entire periphery of the blank; means for preliminarily pressing the folded edges of the blank during its contact with said bed; means for finally pressing the folded edges of the blank after it has been removed from said folding means, said final pressing means including a second bed, two pressing plates normally maintained in different planes and means for forcing said plates into parallel relation with said lastnamed bed during their approach thereto; and means for simultaneously actuating said folding and both said pressmg'means, substantially for'the purposes set forth.
4. In a machine'for folding and pressing the folded edges of blanks. of textile mate rial, folding means including a bed, a templet movable toward and from said bed and infolders;. means for preliminarily pressing the folded edges of the blank before its removal from said templet; means for finally pressing the folded edges of the blank after it has been removed from said templet, said final pressing means including a second bed, two pressing plates normally maintained in different planes and meansfor forcing said i.
plates into parallel relation with said last named ,bedduring their approach thereto; and means for simultaneously actuating said foldin and both said pressin means, substantia ly for the purposes set orth.
5. In a machine for foldin and pressing the folded edges of blanks o textile material the length of which is greater than their width, folding means including a bed, a
templet having a part movable with respect to another part for facilitating the removal of the blank therefrom and a series of infolders'adapted to infold the edges of the blank around the entire periphery of said templet; means for preliminarily pressing the folded naiaa'oa edges of the blank before its removal from said templet means for finally pressing the folded edges of the blank after it has been removed from said templet, said final pressing means including a second bed, two pressing plates normally maintained in diderent planes and means for forcing said plates into parallel relation with said last-named bed during their approach thereto; and means for simultaneously actuating said ifolding and both said pressing means, substantially for the purposes set forth. i
6. In a folding machine, a single stationary heated chamber having two independent bed surfaces; means including one of saidsurfaces for infolding the entire periphery of a blank; and means, including the other of said surfaces, two pressing plates normally maintained in difl'erent planes and means for forcing said plates into parallel relation with said last-named surface during their approach thereto, for finally pressing the folded edges of the blank.
7. In a folding machine, means for pressing the folded edges of a blank including two co-acting bodies one of which is movable toward.- the other and one of which consists of two relatively movable parts in juxtaposition to each other and adapted to cover substantially the entire blank; means for maintaining the surfaces of said parts with their proximate edges farther removed than are their outer edges from the surface of the other body during their approach thereto; and means for forcing said parts into parallel relation with the surface of said other body during the pressing operation.
8. In a folding machine, fold pressingv means including a heated bed and a co-acting pressing plate comprising two relatively movable parts in uxtaposition to each other and adapted to cover substantiallv the entire blank; means for moving said plate toward and from said bed; and means for maintaining one of said parts in angular relation with said bed during its approach thereto. r
9. In a folding machine, fold pressing means including a heated bed and two coacting pressing plates in juxtaposition to each other and adapted to cover substantially the entire blank; and means for moving said plates toward and from said bed and for maintaining them with their proximate edges farther removed than are their outer edges from said bed during their approach thereto.
10. In a folding machine, fold pressing means including a heated bed and a co-acting pressing plate comprising two relatively movable parts disposed one below the other;
means for -movingsaid plate toward saidbed in such relation that the lower edge of the lower of said parts is first brought into substantial contact with said bed, whereby a pocket is formed for the reception of a blank, and thatvboth parts of said plate are afterward brought into operative parallel' relation with said bed.
- 11. In a folding machine, means for pressmg the folded edges of a blank including a structed and fitted to permit each blank after pressingto drop therefrom by its own weight; and means positioned beneath said pressing means for receiving such blanks directly therefrom and for retaining them in juxtapositionwith each other in 'a sub- 'stantially vertical plane.
13. In a folding machine, means, including co-acting pressing surfaces positioned in an approximately vertical plane,.for pressing the folded edges of a succession of blanks; means for moving said surfaces apart after each blank is pressed so as to permit such blank to drop therefrom by its own weight; and means positioned beneath said pressing 'means for receiving such blanks directly therefrom and for retaining tltl ltltl them in juxtaposition with each other in a substantiall vertical plane.
14. In a olding machine, a heated bed; a part movable toward and from said bed; two pressing lates pivoted on said part one beneath t e other; means for holding thelower of said plates: with its upper edge farther removed than its lower edge from said bed; andmeans for moving both said platesin angular relation with each other toward said bed and for" afterward forcing them against saidbed in the same plane.
15, In a folding machine, a heated bed; a part movable toward and fromsaid bed; two pressin plates pivoted on said-part; means for holding said plates with' their proximate edges farther removedthan their outer edges from said bed; and means for moving said lates in'such angular relation with each ot er toward said bed and for afterward forcing them against saidbed in the same plane.

In a folding machine, a heated bed; a transversely movable shaft; a part having slotted connection with said shaft for movement thereon and therewith; two pressing plates pivoted on said part; means for holdmg the lower of said plates with its upper edge farther removed than its lower edge from said bed; and means on said shaft for moving said plates in angular relationwith each other toward saidbed and for afterward forcing them against said bed in the same plane.
18. In a folding machine, a heated bed; a
- part movable toward and from said bed;
two pressing plates pivoted on said part;
springs for holding said plates" with their proximate edges farther removed than their outer edges from said vbed; and means bearing against the rear faces of said plates for moving them in such angular relation with each other toward said bed and for afterward forcing them against said bed in the same plane.
19. In a folding machine, a heated bed; a part movable toward and from said bed; two pressing plates pivoted on said part one beneath the other; means for holding the lower of said plates with its upper edge farther removed than its lower, edge from said bed; and means operative on said plates at predetermined intervals, first to move the lower edge of the lower plate into approximate contact with said bed, next to force the faces of said plates against said bed, and finally to remove said plates from said 20. In a folding machine, folding means including a bed infolders and a templet movable toward and from said bed and pressing means independent of and removed from all said folding means and including a bed and a plurality of independently movable portions, said pressing means being operative while said templet is farthest removed from said bed.
21. In a folding machine, a bed, infolders; a templet; means for moving said templet toward and from said bed and for holding it in its removed position during a part of the cycle of the machine; a heated pressing bed independent of said first-named bed; a pressing plate cooperating with said pressing bed; and means for holding said pressing parts in operative relation while said templet is held in such removed position.
22. In a folding machine, a bed; infolders; a templet movable toward and from said bed; a pressing bed independent of said first-named bed; a pressing plate relaemma tively movable toward and from said pressing bed; means for moving said irifolders, templet and one of said pressing parts in timed relation; and means for stopping the pressing plate is forced against said pressing bed. 7
24. In a folding machine, a bed; infolders; a templet movabletoward and from said bed; a pressing bed independent of said first-named bed; two bodily and pivotally movable pressing plates; means for holding the lower of said plates with its upper edge farther removed than its lower edge from said pressin bed; means for first moving said plates in angular relation with each other toward said pressing bed and for afterward forcing them against said bed in the same plane; means for moving said infolders, templet and pressin lates in timed relation; and means for hiding s'aid templet' in its removed position and said pressing plates forced against said pressing bed during a part of'the cycle of the machine.
25, In a folding machine, a bed; infolders; a templet movable toward and from said bed; a pressing bed independent of said first-named bed; two bodiiy and pivotally movable pressing plates in normal angular relation with each other and adapted to be forcedagainst said pressing bed in the same plane; means for moving said infolders, templet and pressing plates in timed relation;
to said templetto raise and lower it and to hold it in operative relation to said first named bed and in its raised position, to said infolders to move them inwardly over the periphery of said templet and outwardly therefrom, and to said plate to force it against said pressing bed and to hold it in naiaaea pressing relation therewith, the connections between said moving part, said templet and said plate being constructed and timed to hold said templet in its raised position and to hold saidplate forced against said pressing bed during the same" part of the cvcle eluding a pressing bed independent. of said first-named. bed and a plate movable toward and from said last-named bed; and a single moving part, as a shaft, connected to said templet to raise and lower it and to hold it in operative relation tosaid first-named bed and in its raised position, to said infolders to move them inwardly and out wardly and to force them downwardly, and
to said plate to force it against said pressing bed and to hold it in operative relation therewith, the connections between said moving part, said templet and said plate being constructed and timed to hold said templet in its raised position and to hold said plate forced against said pressing bed during the same part of the cycle of the machine.
28. In a folding machine, blank infolding. means including abed, a templet movable in an' approximatelvvertical direction toward and from said bed and infolders adapted to move inwardly over the edges of said templet and outwardly therefrom; pressing means including a bed independent of said first-named bed and a plate movable toward and from said ,last-named bed; a single moving part, as a. shaft, connected to said templet to raise and lower it and to hold it in its raised position, to said infolders to move them inwardly over the edges of said templet and outwardly therefrom, and to said plate to force it against said pressing bed and to hold it in pressing relation therewith; and means for stopping the machine while said templet is in its raised position andv said plate is held in operative pressing position.
29. In a folding machine, blank infolding means including a bed, a templet movable in an approximately vertical direction toward and from said bed andinfolders adapted to move inwardly over the edges of said templet and outwardly therefrom and to be forced downwardly while in their inward position; final pressing means including a bed independent of said first-named bed and a plate movable toward and from said last-named bed; a' single moving'part, as a shaft, connected to said templet to raise and lower it and to hold it in its raised, po-' sition, to said infolders to move them inwardly and outwardly and to force them downwardly, and to said plate to force it against said pressing bed and to hold it in operative relation therewith; and means for stopping the machine while said templet is in operative pressing position.

In a folding machine, means for infolding the edges of a blank; means for stopping the machine after the blank has been folded to permit its removal from said infolding means; and means independent of said folding means for pressing the blank after its removal from said folding means and including a bed and a plurality of independently movable portions, said pressingmeans being operative during the stoppage of the machine.
31. In a folding machine, means for infolding the edges of a blank; and means independent of said folding means for'pressing the blank after its removal from said folding means and including a bed and a plurality of. independently movable por-' tions, said pressing means being operative during the time required for removing the blank from said infolding means and for placing a second blank in position for the folding operation.
32. In a folding machine, blank infolding means including a bed on which the blank is laid and a templet operative to raise the blank from said bed after the folding operation; means for holding said templet in its raised position to permit the removal of the folded blank therefrom and the placing of an unfolded blank on said bed; and
means independent of said folding means for pressing the folded blank after such removal and including a bed and a plurality of lnde'pendently movable portions, said pressing means being operative while said templet is in its raised position.
33. In a folding machine, blank infolding .means including a bed, a templet movable toward and from said bed. and infolders movable inwardly over the edges of said templet and outwardly therefrom; pressing means independent of said folding means including a bed and two pivotally mounted plates normally maintained in angular relation with each other and movable toward and from said pressing bed; and a single moving part, as a shaft, connected to said templet to raise and lower it and to hold it in raised position, to said infolders to move them inwardly over the edges of said templet and outwardly therefrom, and to said plates to force them against said pressing bed and to hold them in pressing relation therewith. i

In a folding machine, blank infolding means including a bed on which the blank in its raised position and said plate is held is laid and a templet o erative to raise the blank from said beda -'r the folding operation; means for holdin said templet in its raised dposition to perm t the removal of blank therefrom and the placing blank folds, saiditemplet adapted and fitted to be lowered uponthe bed and raised therefrom, a pressing device independent of said folding mechanism, said device including two approximately vertical pressing parts adapted to receive, close upon and firmly press and crease a folded blank after its disengagement from the tem'p'let and to open to permit the pressed blank to 'drop therefrom by its own weight; and a single opcrating part, as power'shaft 3a, having connections to the folding mechanism, the templet and the pressing device for effecting harmonious operations thereof.
36. In a folding machine'the combination of a folding bed, a folding mechanism for folding blanks onsaid bed while defined by v a templet, a templet for defining thelblank I folds, said templet adapted and fitted to be lowered upon the bed and raised therefrom,
a pressing device independent of said folding mechanism, said device including two approximately 'vertical posltively operated pressing parts adapted to receive, close upon and firmly p're'm' and crease a folded blank after its disengagement from the templet and to open to permit'the pressed blank to drop therefrom byits own weight; a receptacle for the blanks beneath said pressing device; and a single operating part, as
' power shaft 34, having positive connections to the folding mechanism, the templet and the pressing device'so constructed and timed that successive blanks maybe operated upon simultaneously and in the following order:

In a 0 ding machine the combination ofa foldin bed, a folding mechanism for folding blan s on said bed while defined bye templet, a templet for defining the b ank folds, said templet adapted and fitted to belowered upon the bed and raised therefrom and to carry the folded blank upward with it from the bed, a positively operated pressing device independent of said folding mechanism and including two approximately vertical pressin parts adapted to firmly press and crease a folded blank after its'disengagement from the templet and to open to mit the pressed blank to drop therefrom by its own'weight, a,receptacle for the blanks beneath'said pressing device; and a single operating part, as power shaft 34, having positive connections to the templet, the folding mechanism and the pressing device for effecting harmonious operations thereof the connections between said operating part and one of said pressing parts being constructed and fitted to positively force said last named pressing part toward the other.

Ina folding machine the combination of'a folding bed, a folding mechanism for folding blanks on said bed while defined by a templet, a templet for defining the blank folds, said templet adapted and fitted to be lowered upon the bed and raised therefrom and to carry the folded blanks upward with it from thebed, a positively operated press-- ing device independent of said foldingmechanism including two pressing parts adapted to receive, close upon and firmly press and crease a folded blank after dis engagement thereof from the raised templct,
a receptacle for the pressed blanks dis charged from the pressing device; a singleoperating part, as power shaft 34, having positive connections to the folding mechalll -- of afoldin bed, to which blanks are sucfil cessively fe a folding mechanism for fo1ding a bl on said bedwhile defined by a templet a templet for defining the blank folds adapted and fitted to be-lowered upon the bed and raised therefrom and to carry the'folded blank upward with it from the bed, sothat a new blank may be inserted on the bed; a positively operated pressing device independent of the folding mechanism including two pressing parts and adapted to receive, close-upon and firmly press and. crease a folded blank ar disengagement cm the raised templet and to open and discharge a pressed blank therefrom, said pressing device being located near the raised templet so that blanks from the templet are readily inserted into the pressing device, a receptacle for the pressed blanks discharged from the pressing device; and asingle operating part, as power shaft 34:, having positive connections to the folding mechanism, the templet and the pressing device for raising and lowering the templet and operating the folding 'mechani in harmonious relation on one blank and simultaneously moving said pressing device to receiving, pressni and discharging positions on a previously olded blank, the connections between said operating part and one of said pressing parts bein constructed and fitted to positively force sai bill fill
