To @ZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, BnR'rHA M. BEHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Sangamon, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtainupports; and I do hereby declare the following` to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in curtain poles and supporting means therefor, and is particularly directed to the provision of such a device which is adapted to be used in connection with the usual roller shades.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a curtain supporting device whereby the curtain may be so mounted that it is held outwardly of the plane of the shade to prevent binding thereof and whereby at the same time the upper edge of the curtain is positioned adjacent the window frame to avoid the usual unsightly appearance incident to suspending the top edge of the curtain from a line outwardly of the roller.

It is further an object of the invention to provide such a device including novel means for holding the curtains drawn apart in any desired position.

4It is further the object to provide such a curtain support which is attachable to the edge portions of a window frame whereby marring of the face of the frame upon attachment of the device is obviated.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, formation and arrangement of parts as more fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the appended claims.

supporting the curtain comprises a pair of rods 5 and 6, each of which is formed of telescoping tubular sections to adapt the device for use with various widths of windows. These rods are held in spaced parallel relation by end plates 7 provided with openings 8 receiving the rods, wherein they are secured as by soldering. For supporting these rods at the top of a window a cy llndrical plug 9 is threaded into the ends of cach rod and the intermediate portion of the plug has its sides cut away at l0 to form an oblong cross section adapted to engage in brackets hereinafter to be described. Outwardly of these portions l0 the plugs are threaded for the reception thereon of ornamental knobs ll. The brackets l2 for supporting the rods are flat in shape and adapted to be secured at their inner ends to the edge portions of the window frame. The brackets extend outwardly of the frame at a downward inclination and are provided each with a pair of spaced slots 13 opening at the top edges of said brackets to receive the respective cutaway portions l0 of the plugs 9 secured in the ends of the rods. Thus the rods may be readily attached to or removed from the brackets, and the brackets may be thus detached and removed without marring the front face of the window frame.

It is observed that by the inclination of the brackets the rod 6 is disposed outwardly of and below the rod 5 so that a curtain may be secured on the rod 5 and extend over the rod G whereby it is held spaced outwardly of a shade that ma] be desired to be placed on the window and not bind the same.

While I have illustrated and described a particular embodiment of my invention, I have merely done so for the sake of convenience and I. do not wish to be limited to that particular embodiment that numerous changes may be made Within the details of construction thereof Without in any Way departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

What I claim is:

l. A curtain support including a member arranged when in one position to permit sliding of a curtain thereon and when in a second position to prevent sliding adjustment of said curtain, and means to hold said member in either of said positions.

2. 4. A curtain support comprising a pair of rods held in spaced relation, one being smooth to permit of the ready adjustment of a curtain thereon, the other having means to engage and hold the curtain when supported thereon, and brackets for the rods providing means for the support of the rods to permit of the adjustment of the curtain on the smooth rod and for the reversal of said rods to bring the rod provided with curtain engaging means into position to support the curtain.
