Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 2a, 1916. Serial No. same.
, rungs, the entire weight of the body is generally supported upon the arch of the foot, which is both uncomfortable and injurious if the ladder is used any great length of time.
It is the purpose of my invention to eliminate this objection by providing an attachment for the ladder, in the nature of a platform, which can be easily and quickly associated with the ladder and adjusted relatively thereto as the occasion may require, or removed therefrom .when desired.
' More specifically stated the invention embodies a platform and supports therefor, which latter are so associated with the platform as to relieve the fastening elements which connect said parts, of undue strain under the weight of the user of the platform. v
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement'of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the attachment in position upon the ladder.
Fig. 2 is a view of the platform.
lFig. 3 is a' view of-one of the supports therefor. I
Referring more particularly to the drawing A indicates a ladder of ordinary well hown construction, forming the subject matter of my invention. The latter consists of a platform 5 whichmay be constructed from any suitable material of any desired dimensions and has projecting from one edge thereof a pair of spaced hooks 6 which open downwardly and are adapted to receive one of the rungs 7 of the ladder. The hooks may form an integral part of the platform or be other- 1 weight supported and B the attachment wise secured thereto, but in either instance they project above the upper surface of the platform to permit the latter to be properly positioned or mounted upon the ladder. The platform 5 is provided with spaced elongated slots 8 adjacent its edge opposite the edge from which the hooks project and is adapted to receive the supports 9 in the manner and for the purpose to be presently described.
Each of the supports preferably consist of a single length of flat material such as metal 01' the like which terminate at their upper ends in the hooks 10, each of the supports being twisted at a point in their length at 11 so as to dispose the hooks 10 in a position to engage one of the rungsof the ladder in the manner shown in Fig.1. The lower ends of the supports 9 are passed edgewise through the slots 8 and are provided with a longitudinal series of spaced apertures which interchangeably receive a suitable fastening element, such as a cotter pin or the like indicated at 12. By reason of this construction it will bemanifestthat the platform may be adjusted and arranged atv different degrees of inclination with respect to .the ladder, and to the comfort of the user or as the occasion may require. It will now be noted that the supports 9 pass through the slots 8 at an angle whereby the upper and lower longitudinal edges of each support engage the opposite end walls of the slots 8. thereby relieving the fastening elements 12 of undue strain under the by the platform. The device is extremely simple in construction and capable of being quickly and easily associated with or removed from the ladder when desired.
It is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, but it is desired to have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction and arrangement of parts shown, as various changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is A ladder attachment embodying a platform, hooks projecting beyond one edge thereof and adapted to engage a rung of the ladder, said platform having elongated slots adjacent its edge a pair of supporting elements constructed from strap iron and having their upper opposite said hooks,
Patentedlueb. 13,19t7.
ends formed to provide hooks adapted to engage a rung of the ladder above the platform, said straps being twisted to pass edgewise through said slots, said straps having a pluralit; of spaced apertures. a fastening element for each strap adapted to be passed through said apertures below the platform, and the upper and lower edges of each strap being arranged to engage the opposed end walls of the slot through which it is passed, 13 to relieve the fastening elements of undue strain.
In testimony whereof I afiix n1} signature in presence of two witnesses.
