IMPROVEMENT IN TREMOLOS FOR REED-ORGANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 121,610, dated December 5, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI K. FULLER, of Brattleborough, in the county of WVindham and State of Vermont, have invented an Im1 )rovement in the Tremolo of Reed Organs, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in an improved stop mechanism, whereby the motion of the fan can be instantly arrested by the interposition of a resisting medium to overcome the rotation.
Figure l is a sectional view of the actionboard, shaft, and fan of the tremolo mechanism of a cottage or reedorgan, showing in elevation the box B containing the driving attachment and the device for arresting the motion ot the tremolo. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same parts.
As represented in the drawing, A is the actionboard; B, the box containing the motor-wheel, by which, under the influence of a currentof air, the shaft D is rotated carrying the fans 0 0, by which the tremolo in the tone is produced. A sliding bar, E, is held to the side of the box B by brackets ff, or other suitable support, which allow it to move freely in a longitudinal direction to a limited extent. This bar is provided with a knob, c, for the convenience of the performer in effecting this movement, and is arranged in proximity with the shaft D. On the side next the shaft this bar is provided with an abrupt shoulder, or other equivalent projection,
at F. The shaft D has a radial spur or pin, G in such a position that when the slide is pushed in the spur meets the projection F, which at once arrests the rotation of the fan. When the slide is drawn out, as indicated by dotted lines, the shoulder is removed from contact with the pin and the rotation is not interfered with.
More than one spur may be employed, it desired, the main object being to quickly and completely arrest the rotation by the interposition of a positive obstacle to its continuance. Hereto fore the motion has been stopped by applying a break or by similar mechanism, which is not instantaneous but gradual and uncertain in its action. My device is both instantaneous and eftectual, and places the tremolo attachment completely under the control of the pertormer.
