Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEVI K. FULLER, OF BRATTLEBOROUGH, VERMONT, ASSIGNOR TO J. ESTEY 85 OO., OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN TREMOLOS FOR REED ORGANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,609, dated December 5, 1871.
To jl/ll. ywhom 'it ymay concern:
Beit known that I, LEvI K. FULLER, oi' Brattleborough, in the county of 'Vindham and State ot' Vermont, have invented an Improvement in th e Tremolo oi' lteed Organs, oi which the following is a speciiication:
My invention consists in an improved stopmechanism7 whereby the motion otl the i'an can be instantly arrested by the interposition ot' a resistin medium to overcome the rotation.
Figure 1 is a perspective of my improvement showing the device tor arresting the motion of the tremolo. Fig. 2 is a sectional view otl Fig'. l., with the box containing the driving-wheel and stop-mechanism in elevation, and showing` the operation oi" the same by nie-aus of dotted lines.
As represented in the drawing, A is the actionboard, and I3 the box containin` the motor-wheel, which is revolved by a current oi' air from the bellows, rotating the shaft l), and causing a corresptnidingmovementoi' thei'ans c c,bywhichthe treniulous eil'ect is produced. E is a slidingbar, which is supported on the box by brackets a c or or other equivalent means. J is a lever having,`
one end pivoted to the bo\v B, and the other connected by the link h to the sliding-bar E. This lever is provided with a projection, fai, which is brought into proximity and removed from the pin b on the fan-shaft by the action of the lever J. Vhen the sliding` bar is drawn the link h assumes a position which depresses the leverJ sufliciently to remove the projection fi from contact with the pin b, leaving the shaft free to revolve. In order to arrest the motion ofthe tremolo, the slide is pushed back, as shown in Fig. 2, when the lever J is brought into such position that the projection yi meets the pin I) and stops the rotation of the sha-it D. K is a rod which connects the lever J with a valve underneath the action-board, which is opened by the downward thrust oi" the lever simultaneously with the release oi" the pin l), admitting` a current of air to act upon the wind-wheel and rotate the fan-shaft D.
I claim as my invention- The combination ot' the stop-lever J, connectingrod Il., and slide E with the spur b, or its equivalent, ior controlling the motion ofthe fanshai't l) in parlor organs, substantially as set Jforth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEVI K. FULLER.
