To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, EUGENE O. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at De troit, in the county of l ayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Breeders, of which the following is a specification, reference be ing had to the accompanyingdrawings.

This invention relates to improvements in breeders and has for its primary object to provide a poultry brooder having a breeding chamber and a feed chamber. said brooder being of such construction that the said chambers can be bodily removed from connect-ion with the base or floor of the breeder, whereby the latter. can be convoniently swept or cleaned.

It is another important object of my invention to provide a sectional breeder for poultry, one of said sections having a breeding and feeding chamber provided with transparent windows in the roof or top walls thereof, a hover arranged in the breeding chamber, and a heater therefor, the base portion of the apparatus being provided with a suitable door through which a lamp or other heating medium may be arranged therein beneath said heater.

It is an additional object of my invention to provide a device of the above character which is of simple and inexpensive con struction, highly serviceable and convenient in practical use, and is admirably adapted for the purposes in view.

ll ith the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrange ment of parts to be hereinafter more fully described. claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which,

Referring in detail to the drawings, 5 designates the base section of my improved brooder which may be of any desired dimensions and is provided at one end with an inclined runway 6. A suitable door 7 is provided in one of the side walls of this base section 5, adjacent to its opposite end.

Spaced, transversely disposed, vertical walls 1?: connect the side walls of the base section 5 to afford additional strength and also to support the floor 17 of the brooding and feeding chambers.

The floor of the brooding chamber 10 has an opening 18 therein, and a heater generally indicated at 19 and preferably of rectangular form is arranged in the brooding chamber, the bottom wall of said heater having an opening 20 therein coinciding with the opening 18 in the breeder floor. The heater includes an outer wall and an inner wall 21 which is entirely closed and spaced from said outer wall, as seen in Fig. 3. The inner wall is sustained in such spaced relatien by a number of brackets indicated at 22 fixed to said inner and outer walls. An outlet pipe or conduit 23 is slidably engaged with the flue 23 connected to the top of the outer wallv of said heater, and extends up wardly through an opening in the roof ridge l3. A hover board 2-1- is supported above the heater in spaced relation thereto. said board likewise being of rectangular form and having a plurality of de 'iendiug, fabric strips 26 indicates the lamp or other suitable heat producing means which is inserted through the door in the side of the base section 5 beneath the opening 18. The heat rising from this lamp enters the space between the inner and outer walls of the heater and the outer wall there of soon becomes heated to a high degree. The chicks gather closely around the hover so that they are warmed by the heat radiating from the heater. The partition wall 9 is provided with one or more doors, indicated at 97, which may be opened to admit the chicks into the feeding chamber 11, and the front end wall of the removable section 8 is provided with a door 28 to permit the chicks to pass from the latter chamber to the yard.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawin-gs, the construction, manner of operation and several advantages of my invention will be clearly and fully understood. By the provision of the square or rectangular heater, the chicks, in gathering around the hover, will follow in a straight line along the side walls of the heater, and separate at the corners thereof so that they will not be come tightly crowded together which might possibly result in the killing of some of the chicks. he entire top section 8 may be very easily and quickly removed for the purpose of cleaning the floor 17 which, it will be noted, is 1 ermanently secured upon the edges of the vertical walls of the base section 5 and to the transverse walls 15 and 16. The lamp may also be readily removed from beneath the heater through the door 7 for the pur pose of cleaning or adjusting the same. While I have shown in the accompanying drawing a particular construction of the hover and the heater, it will be understood that the manner of assembling the parts of the heater and the hover may be considerably varied. Th several other detail features of the device are also susceptible of considerable modification and I, therefore, reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the in vention as claimed.

Having thus fully described my inven tion, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is 1. In an apparatus of the character described, a base section having a top wall, an upper section having brooder and feeding chambers isolated from each other, said top wall of the base section constituting the floor of said chambers, exterior means for detachably holding the upper section in con nection with the base section, a rectangular heater centrally arranged within the brooder chamber upon said floor, means for supplying heat to the heater, a hover supported upon the heater in spaced relation thereto, said heater having an outlet flue, and a discharge conduit telescopically engaged upon the outlet fiue and having its upper end secured in the top of said upper section.

2. In airapparatus of the character described, a base section having a top wall, an upper section provided with a transverse partition dividing the same into brooder and feeding chambers, doors in said partition wall al'lording communication between said chambers, means for detachably holding the upper section upon the base section, the top wall of the latter section constituting the floor of said chambers, the floor of the breeder chamber having an opening therein, a heater having inner and outer spaced walls, the bottom of the outer wall being provided with an opening coinciding. with the opening in said floor, a flue connnunicating with the space between said walls at the top of the heater, said bottom section having a door in one ofits side walls providing means for the ins rtion of a lamp beneath the heater, a hover supported in spaced re lation to the heater, an outlet pipe permanently connected to the top of said upper chamber and telescopically engaged with said flue, and transparent windows mounted in the top of said upper section to afford access to said chambers.
