CLOTHES-HANGER.
specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1917.
Application filed September 4, 1915. Serial No. 48,951.
pense and whichv will be convenient in use,
To this end the improved clothes hanger comprises a series of bow-springs between which the articles to be suspended are inserted, the holding bow-springs being preferably thin, flat strips of steel suitably mounted in a holder, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan view, partly broken away, of the improved clothes hanger, and Fig. 2 an end view thereof.
Referring to the drawing 12 denotes a back-board preferably having a mortise 18 adapted to receive a U-shaped strip of metal 14, the end arms of which embrace the open ends of a series of bow-springs 15 held apart at their said open ends by a series of wooden blocks 16 herein shown as being attached to the back or main part of the said U-shaped metal strip by screws 17.
To the back-board 12 are attached, by screws 18, wooden housing and bracing strips 19 which serve to cover the blocks 16 and to brace the bow-springs 15 vertically, the said strips 19 being arranged above and below the said bow-springs 15 in front of the said blocks 16, and cooperating with the metal strip 14: to connect the said howsprings and blocks to the backboard 12.
A rod 21 passes through the arms of the U-shaped strip 1 1 and also through all of the bow-springs 15 and blocks 16, said rod being preferably upset or riveted at its ends outside of the said arms soas to secure all the said parts, through which it passes, together. I
The back board 12 is, in the present in stance, provided with holes 22 for the reception of screws by which it may be rigidly secured to any suitable vertical support, but it may be otherwise fixed in a proper working position.
In the use of the improved clothes hanger the articles to be held will be inserted between the bow-springs 15 by being forced inward from the outer rounded ends of said bow-springs, as will be readily understood.
The improved clothes hanger may comprise any suitable desired number of bowsprings 15 which may be of any desired size or length and may be of any suitable fiat spring metal, as steel or brass. The bowsprings, being formed of flat strips of metal, will particularly adapt the holder for suspending mens pantaloons which will be held creased when suspended by their bottom ends in the holder.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
A clothes hanger comprising the combination with a back-board having a mortise, of a U-shaped metal strip the body of which is arranged in said mortise and which strip is attached to said backboard, a series of bowsprings within the arms of said metal strip, a series of blocks within the open ends of said bow-springs, said blocks being attached to said back-board, wooden housing and bracing strips also secured to said backboard and disposed above and below the inner ends of said bow-springs, and a rod passing through said blocks and the inner ends of said bow-springs and also through the arms of said U-shaped strip, the ends of said rod being riveted to said arms to secure said blocks, bow-springs and arms together.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ANNA L. STEIG.
