Description

J. J2 Jallzgbw/z.
PautgntedA Nov. 28, 1871.-
A No. 121,375,`
UNITED STATES4 PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL S. JAMISON, JR., OF SALTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM AND WATER INJECTORS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. JAMIsoN, Jr., of Saltsburg, in the county of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Steam and Water Injector 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a sectional elevation; Fig. 2, a transverse vertical section.
This invention relates to the steam-injector used -for filling boilers with water and it consists in a double conical piece of metal placed within and lengthwise of the conducting-pipe of the instrument, in front of the steam and watersupply pipes, an annular space being left between the said conical piece and its inclosingpipe for the passage of water to the boiler, the object of the conical piece being to more thoroughly commingle the steam and water than they would otherwise be, and consequently to more rapidly and completely condense the steam.
Referring to the drawing, a is the double conical piece aforesaid, the same being secured within the pipe b by means of connecting-arms c,
three, more or less, in number. The rear end of the piece ais entered by the mouth of the watersupply pipe d. e is the steam-pipe. rIhe conical piece produces a rolling motion of the steam and Water toward the center, which operates to thoroughly commingle the two agents. Shoulders j, located between the end of the conical waterpipe d and the inside of the pipe b, serve to assist the steam in checking the water if reaction takes place. The conical piece directs the Water in such cases toward the shoulders f.
In this instrument the water takes a straight course, all the turning of corners being done by steam, which will do this better than water. The device is also intended for raising water from Wells, lling engine-tanks, &c.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The double conical piece a, in combination with an injector, as specified.
