Application filed .Tune 5. 1913,*Seria1 No. 771,854. Renewed .T une To all ywhom t may concern.'
Be it known that we, HENRY A. WISE foon and JonN A. IsELL, citizens of the United States, said 'con residing at New York, county and State of New York, and said IsELL residing at Middletownfi'n the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Folding- Blade-Adjusting Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in folding cylinders employed in modern high speed web printing machines.
The principal object of the invention is to provide practicable means whereby the folding blades can be adjusted on the folding cylinder toward and from the point thereon at which the yweb is cut. Thus the adjustment can be effected without adjusting or disturbing the cutting cylinder or either member of the cutting mechanism carried by the cuttin and folding cylinders.
Another object of this invention is to provide for accomplishing this result in a sim! ple and expeditious manner without adding any material complications .to the folding cylinder or materially increasing the cost thereof. l
The invention also involves improvements in details of construction and combinations parts as will appear hereinafter.
eference is to be had to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure l is an end elevation of a folding cylinder with parts in section, the adjacent members of the folding and cutting mechanism being shown in dotted lines, and Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. j i. Theinvention is shownl as applied to a folding cylinder 1 which cooperates with the cutting cylinder 2 and folding rolls 3. The cutting mechanism comprises the usual blade 5 carried by the cutting cylinder and in this case, two coperating members 6 carried by thefolding cylinder. Each of these' members 6 is provided with a-rubber pad 7.
Each end of the folding cylinder is provided with an annular recess 10. In each one is located a bearing plate 11 of circular form. These plates are capable of'being adjustedcircumferentially in the recesses 10 relative to the members 6 and pads 7, For the purpose of -holding these plates 11 'provided with recesses therein,

tween which are located bearings 17, those shown in the drawings being of the ball I bearing type.
' In these bearings are mounted the folding blade shafts 18, which otherwise are constructed in the usualway. The folding blades 20 are mounted on these shafts and coperate with the folding rolls 3 as usual. The cylinder is provided with a series of for the blades, which permit u ne adjustment. Vhen on account of a change in the character of the work, or for any other reasonit is found that in the center of the sheet, adjustment can be made by loosening the bolts 15, and shifting the two bearing plates 11 toward or from the corresponding pad 7 until the desired position is reached. Then the in their adjusted positions by tightening up the boltsv 15. In this way'accurate folding ispossible under all conditions and the equal adjustment of both folding blades is secured without disturbing the relative adjustment of the two members of the cutting mechamsm.
Although .we have illustrated and described, only a single embodiment of the invention, we are aware modifications can be person slgilled in the from the scope of the of the fact that many made therein by any artwithout departing inventionas expressed in the claims. Therefore we do not wish to be limited to the details of construction herein shown and described, but
What we do claim is 1. The combination der having a cutting member thereon and ofr bea-ring .plates circumferentially adjustable, in said recesses toward-andfrom said cttin-g member, and a vfolding bladeshaft supported by saidbearing plates.
The combination with a., folding yan-,fv der havin .annular recesses in its-ends opposite eac other, circular bearing vplates located in said recesses and' adjustable therein circumferentially of the cylinder, bearings located said plates, a'shaftvrotatable in' slightly elongated cli"r `rance holes 21 the fold does not come exactly plates are clamped with a folding cylin-- said bearings, and e folding blade mounted en seid shaft.
The coz-nbination with a' folding cyln. der having annular recesses in its ends, cil'- mdar bea'riiz pletes'loeated in seid recesses find edjusta le therein circumferentiall of the eylinden means for clamping said plates to the GylinderA in their adjusted positions, bali bearings in said plates, a shaft rotatable in said bearings, and a folding blade mounted on said shaft.
e, A foldingcylinder having in combina.- i-on e cutting member mounted on said cylmler, a pair of cylinder ends each provided with im annuler recess therein, circumfereglty slttedpletes mounted in said recesses, bolts in said slots for securing said plates in adjusted angular Eosition, two sets o dametrieally opposed earings in said plates, a. shaft rotatabe in each set of beerings, and a folding blade on yeach shaft, an-
guiar adjustment of the letes being effective to vary the angular re ation of theshafts 'and `the cutting member.
