Application filed June 22, 1915. Serial No. 35,513.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAnLEs D. Evans, a citizen of the United ,States, residing at Kings Mountain, in the county of Lincoln and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a combination table, and more particularly to the class of adjustable combination tables.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a table of this character, wherein'the construction thereof is novel in form, so that it may be used for various purposes, for example, a sickroom, hospital, service, card parlor or drawing table.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a table of this character, wherein the top thereof can be raised to any desired height, or disposed at any angle, to suit the fancy of the user.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a table of this character, wherein its top may be removed thereby permitting the substitution of an ironing board, thus making it useful for ironing purposes.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a table of this character, which is simple in construction, reliable and efficient in its purposes, readily and easily adjusted, strong, durable and inexpensive in the manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in toe accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a front elevation of a table constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2, is an end elevation. Fig. 3, is a fragmentary vertical sectional elevation. Fig. 4, is a sectional view on the line -ilof Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the table comprises the horizontal base rail 10, the end cross bar 11, fixed thereto, the legs 12, secured to the ends of the said end cross bar and the remaining end of the base rail,
res aectively, which constitute the stand for the table. Mounted on the upper side of the base rail 10, is a foot board 13, vhich has secured thereto a vertical hollow pedestal 14, provided with a removable side check 15, so that access may be had to the interior thereof when the occasion requires. Slidable within the pedestal 1%, is an ad justablc post 16, having formed on opposite sides centrally located longitudinally disposed guide ribs or strips 17, which engage in grooves or channels 18, formed in the inner faces of the sides of the pedestal 14, toprevent any displacement of the post 16, when being adjusted or at rest. 0n the upper end of the post 16, is a horizontally arranged crown piece 19, for supporting the top 20, which has fixed thereto at the respective ends of the piece 19, depending bracket 21, and segment 22, respectively, both being designed to serve as bearings for receiving pivots 23, mounted in the opposite ends of the said crown piece 19, for hinging the table top thereto. hen the top is removed by taking off the same an ordinary ironing board can'be supported on the crown piece, so that the table may be used for ironing purposes. The segment 22, has formed therein an arcuate shaped slot 24, through which is passed a headed bolt or screw 25, the head thereof being disposed against the inner face of the segment, and this screw also engages in a keeper 26, which overlaps the said segment and is detachably fastened in any suitable manner to the extension on post 16, while threaded for adjustment on the screw 25, is a winged binding nut 27, so that the top can be firmly held fastened in angular adjusted position.
Projecting without the pedestal 14, and supported upon a pivot 28, therein is a raising and lowering lever 29, which has connecswingingly tion with the post 16, for elevating or lowering the same, on the swinging of the said lever, thereby adjusting the height of' the table top to suit the convenience of the user. The lever 29, is pivoted to an inner link 30, which is bolted at 81, to the post 16, and works in a slot 32 formed therein, for the clearance of the extension on operatin the lever 29, to raise or lower the top of the table. This bolt 81, is extended through a slot 83, in one cheek 16, and carries a winged nut 34, so that the post 16 can be locked in its adjusted position in the pedestal.
having side cleats engageable in the guide From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and operation of the table will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is A table of the character described, com-' prising a stand, a hollow pedestal rising from said stand and having longitudinally disposed inner guide grooves in the sides thereof, a post movable in said pedestal and grooves, a crown on the upper end or' the post, a table top upon the crown, one of sa1d side cleats being recessed, a hand operable lever pivoted in the pedestal and projected into the recess, a link pivoted to the inner end of the lever, one side of the pedestal being longitudinally slotted, a threaded bolt pivotally connecting the link to the recessed cleat and projected through the slot ex- CHAR-LES D.
