WINDOW-SCREEN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 16, 1917.
Application filed January 14, 1916. Serial No. 72,118.
7 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROSWELL H. Pon'rnn, a c1t1zen of the United States, residing at lVeston, in the county of Lenawee, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vindow-Screens;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in window screens.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a window screen which can be readily hung in the ordinary window frame and be conveniently and quickly applied to or removed from the window.
Another object is to provide a window screen which is frameless and flexible so that it can be swung outwardly with reof removing the screen.
A still further object is to provide a screen which can be adjusted to window frames of different heights.
Another object is to provide novel detachable means for holding the marginal edges of the screen against the window frame to prevent entrance of flies or other insects.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved screen shown in position in the window frame; Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 1 is a detail perspective view of one of the members used for holding the side of the screen to the window frame.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a strip of screen of a length and Width approximately commensurate with the interior length width of the window frame 11. The'upper and lower ends of the screen are respectively provided with the metallic binding strips 12 and 13 which extend the full width of the screen. The upper strip is formed with openings 14 for the reception of hooks 15 carried by the upper portion of the frame whereby the screen is properly suspended within the frame. The lower strip 13 car ries a plurality of bolts 23 which are received in the slots 24 of a vertically adjustable strip 25; winged nuts 26 are carried by the bolts whereby the strip can be clamped in different vertical adjusted positions. This strip carries a hook 16 for engagement with an eye 17 on the upper face of the window stool. On the vertical interior faces of the window frame there are carried the inwardly extending pins 18 on which are mounted the rotatable flattened buttons 19. An angular strip of metal 20 is adapt-ted to be disposed against these vertical faces of the window frame and are provided in their outstanding portions with with serrations 22 which are arranged to en'- gage in the marginal edges of the screen and press them against the faces of the window frame.
When it is desired to reach out of the window, either one 'or both of the angular strips are removed, thus permitting one side of the screen to be pushed aside, after releasing the hook from the eye, or permitting of the lifting up of the bottom edge of the screen so that the lower portion of the window will be open. a a
When the screens are to be taken down for the winter, the angular strips are removed, the hooks released and then the upper strip 12 detached from the hooks and the screen rolled up into a small compact form.
What is claimed is:
The combination with a window frame, of a strip of wire screening adapted to fit within the frame and having suitable stifl 'ening means at its upper and lower end, means In testimony whereof, I afiix my signafor detachably securing the ends of the ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
