HORSESHOE.
Application filed May 19, 1916.
To ,all whom it may concern Be it known that we, LEE B. SCHRADER, ADOLPH P. SCHRADER, and SAMUEL A. SCHRADEP., citizens of the United States, and residing at Shelbyville, in the county of Shelby and State of Indiana; Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State of Indiana, and Sapulpa, in the county of Creek and State of Oklahoma, respectively, have invented new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes, of which the following' is a specification.
This invention relates to horse shoes and more particularly to that class of such devices known in the art as the soft tread type horse shoe wherein resilient means are provided to cushion the shock to the hoof when striking a hard surface and has for its primary object the provision of ashoe of the character set forth with means wherebyl the same may be easily fastened in place upon the hoof in combination with a resilient pad rmly held in place upon the shoe to form an eective and durable cushioning medium.
A further object of the invention is to construct a shoe of the type described wherein the cushioning pad is adapted to present a tread surface and a hoof engaging surface held in place by an intermediate metallic plate.
With the foregoing and other objects in view as will from time to time hereinafter appear this invention consists in the peculiar construction and combination of the various elements of a soft tread horse shoe as described in the following specification and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings illustrating the preferred form of the inven tion and in which the same numerals of reference indicate the same parts wherever used, Figure 1 is a side view of the device applied to a horses hoof. Fig. 2 is a section Specification of Letters Patent.

through the shoe and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the shoe.
4L designates a sheet of metal of suitable thickness provided with a plurality of integral tangs 5 extending from the body portion7 which body portion has a plurality of apertures G therein for a purpose hereinafter set forth. Each of the tangs 5 has an aperture 7 near the outer end thereof.
Above and below the metal plate 4 and through the apertures 6 is molded a block of rubber or rubber composition 8 forming a relatively thin sheet 9 upon the upper side of the plate L having extensions 10 passing through the apertures 6 and integral with a thick tread portion ll.
Above the rubber 9 is a sheet 13 of suitable fabric or leather adapted to Contact with the hoof and protect the same.
When it is desired to attach the shoe to a hoof the tangs 5 are bent upwardly around the hoof to conform to the contour thereof and fastened in place by means of screws 14 through the holes 7, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
Due to the molding of the rubber 8 above and below the plate f-l connected by the rubber extensions l0 extending through the apertures 6 of the plate 4 a durable construction is obtained which eectively holds the rubber tread in place.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely dierent embodiments of our invention could be made, without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
lVhat we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- A horse shoe comprising, in combination, a sheet metal supporting plate of a size adapted to extend to the edge of the hoof and provided with a plurality of apertures, a series of tangs cut from said plate and eX- tending radially from the edge thereof and having apertures therein, a resilient pad molded above and below said plate and through the apertures thereof to form a cushion portion above and a tread portion below the same, the said tangs being free from Contact with the molded material and being adapted to be bent up around the hoof to support the shoe thereon, and a layer of protecting material between the hoof and the molded material.
