'lille dolls belly 16, has e depending arm 17, rigidly seemed, thereto andY adapted 'to telescope wili or be secured to the warcll'y extending erm 12 of the bese. Als illustrated, lie depending arm l? is iii the form of :i loop of wire the ends being i'iimly seouiefl to lie liocly :incl 'the loop portion eX- tending into the end of the erm 12,. The doll may oe ree/lily semoi'ed fiom the base but ille ifesilie'ney of the wire povioles :oliiF siem; fiieioiel engagement with lie emi l2 io effectively liolfl the body 'i6 iii position. The rings need not be abge lutely rigid but are mede ol" sufficiently stili' materialize normally hold their shape. The upper ends of the strips Q1 may be secured to the body 16 in any suitable manner as, for instance, by being connected to :i tape 22 tied about the Waist, of the body. Cutside of this skeleton frame is the main lamp shade 23 which serves :is a- Skirt for the doll and which may be of any suitable material, prefeiobly iiimmed to give it en oinamenta appeal-mice, The skirt is mede very full and is held' oui; away fiom lie light by the skeleon ifeiiie se that the materiel of the skirt is irevenefl 'ioo coming im@ 'oo close en-l b t ;,esiieiie with the lig'i). The sliep-e of the im 'le suoli elieit liolc's -`:the ekiii; in the *i bell elm-@exi almelo,
The dolls body comes behind the electric light while the leg portions come at the sides. Thus these parts do not tend' to cast any shadow on the front portion of the skirt which is normally presented to view, By making the lower end of the body and the legs of white and smooth, shiny or glazed material, the light rays striking them will be reflected forwardly and the effective illuminating` power of the lamp as seen from the front will be correspondingly increased. The body and legs otl the doll may be made of noncombustible material. lVith the ordinary construction of doll I preferably use a shield or screen 21 behind the light and in front of the doll parts so as to protect the latter and reflect both the heat and the light forwardly. This shield may be of asbestos or other similar noncombustible material and may extend above as well as behind the light a'iid be secured to the doll or to the standard or socket oi the lamp. Preferably the standard i's somewhat shorter in respect to the size of the doll than is shown in the drawing.
The lamp may be connected to a source of electrical energy and the current contrlled in any suitable manner. As a simple and inconspicuous arrangement, I extend the wires through an aperture in the rear side ot' the base and in the rear of the arm 12, and extend them up through the standard 13. A suitable switch may be mounted in. the standard 13 or directly at the lower end of the bulb. As shown, the switch is provided with a short flexible, controlling member 25 extending downwardly to the base so as to facilitate the operation of the switch. Y
Havingthus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A lamp including a base, aplate-'sup ported thereon and having an upwardly ex-l ported thereon and having an upwardly eX-.
tending arm integral therewith, a lamp standard on said plate, means for connecting said standard, plate and base together, a body portion having` a depending arm telescoping with said lirst mentioned arm, a skeleton frame including a ring larger than and suspended from said body portion, a lamp shade shaped cover encircling said frame, and a shield of non-combustible material supported beneath said shade and between said body portion and said light.
A lamp including a base, an upwardly extending arm carried thereby, a lamp standard carried by said base, a doll body having a depending member telescoping with said upwardly extending arm, a skeleton frame secured to said body and including a series of concentric spaced rings and 'flexible connecting members, a lamp shade shaped cover encircling said frame and having its lower edge spaced above said base, and a non-combustible shield vsupported beneath said cover and between the lamp and said doll body.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York, and State of New York, this 19th day of November, A. D. 1915.
